OUCH! I heard a similar sound when I ripped my ACL years ago.
Hopefully Its just your kneecap and not something more serious like a ripped knee tendon or worse a PCL tear. Anyway, ice it down til your mom gets home. I've been there so I can certainly empathize with you. Let us know the extent of your injury as soon as you find out.

In my experience I suspect that this injury is gonna be quite serious in nature and will likely require surgery. It would be good for Dan to go to the gathering to be around others who will offer him support during this difficult time.Also he would still be able to offer tips and insight to the less experienced.

Will Dan be back? Of course he will! But he must be very patient and take the time to properly recover, Else he will re-injure himself and have to start the recovery process all over again.

Take it from me, I suffered a complete ACL tear back when I was 20 and it took pretty much a full year to completely recover.

I landed a d-leg twist like that once and my knee felt like it was straight fuckered, but after the swelling went down it was ok... so try to stay positive, but definitely get your ass to the hospital quickly.

I couldn't get myself to the hospital, you realize. It's hard to drive a car when your leg is fucked up. I had to wait an excrutiating HOUR before my mom could get home to take me up there. I had plenty of time, so I did so. I don't think I could FAKE what I did.

Anyways, so far, I'm waiting on X-rays. The doctor told me that the kneecap is most likely cracked, and that the impact could of broken one of the fishing wire replacement tendons in my hip (I had some put in a few years back). Yuck. Hopefully, no ACL damage, but I could be out for a longggggggggg time.

:-D I've been HORRIBLY unlucky medically. Only one eye, one lung, nerve damage in my right shoulder, delt, tricep, and bicep, tendon replacements in my right hip (yes Jan, fishing wire! Strange, no? They do it for dogs as well), a chip out of the base of my skull, and two bone cysts the size of half dollars, one in each leg. I'm a walking wreck...but I couldn't care less :)

The injury has been confirmed to be a hairline crack in my kneecap, as well as a snapped fishingwire tendon replacement in my hip. (the break was from a portion of my right ilitobial band, to be more specific. VERY important tendon of the hip, it basically connects the hip to the thigh bone. I have three fishing wires on that tendon alone.)

I'll have to get that wire fixed, but thankfully, the fracture isn't as bad as once conceived. I'll be back in action in about two and a half/three months. I'll be hanging around here with you loves, though :-D I guess I'll be playng cheerleader untill I get back into the game. When I do though *shakes fist* Vengance!

Well, yes everyone, this happened last year. I had severely over-rotated a b-twist I was throwing, and my landing leg missed the ground, and my right kneecap took the fall. It cracked on impact, and I got a hairline fracture on my right kneecap, putting me out for the whole summer. Some of my tricks were lost over that summer, actually, and still are painful to do because of the knee (esspecially 540's and 900's) Alas, I still do them.

Well, it was discouraging at the beginning. I think my biggest obstacle in tricking so far was when I got struck in the right eye with the pool stick and was blinded. Some tricks will always be awkward for me (namely gainer moves, I always have to force myself to compensate so I don't turn to the side) and I progress much slower than I used to (every trick I have learned and every trick I work on takes a lot of extra trial and error anymore, honestly), but, in all honesty, I don't mind anymore. I like to see it as a bigger reason to become better. I NEVER thought about giving up then, so there is no reason for me to give up now. It's not the great who are strong; It's the strong who are great.

As for the knee healing, it took about 3 and a half months for it to fully heal: successfully destorying my summer. A lot of moves I had learned to land from that period had been lost after the break, and that small break really set me up for some harder times and bad habits (esspecially now). I don't think my knee gets thrown as hard as it used to, and I wish I could help it. I guess I'll have to keep doing knee lifts.
