View Full Version : How the hell?..

How the hell can you trick with an ipod or mp3 player? It's got to be the most ludicrous idea ever. I don't have one, but man - it would be flying all off and over the place. The headphones could never stay. On top of that I roll around and crash when I trick, which is normal! It would get crushed and clacked - and any move actually worth a damn would cause something to go wrong I'm sure.

Music is absolutely essential when I train. I have a large radio with aux input and could not trick without it - but how is it that people are actually serious about tricking with wearable mp3 players? Am I missing something or am I right?

ipod nanos have a flash drive making the insides not move around when u trick. also my ipod has had some major abuse...but its kinda crazy to even consider tricking with 300 bucks on ur side.

I need something like this...

Rook
May-14-06, 12:37 PM
Maybe you could tape all the cables and the device itself to your body... that way it won't fly off.

I just use my cd player and plug it in to my external power supply :)

May-14-06, 12:42 PM
i generally trick without music too, though ive been wanting to change that habit... but yeah, like rook said: im sure it could be accomplished with lots of tape.

and ipods are retarded anyway... the whole miniature hard-drive thing isnt my fancy... if i were to have an mp3 player, id want it to not be magnetically volatile and not be affected by shock. :good:

I have no idea how you can trick with a ipod on either. When I sweep my damn driveway those headphone things get caught on my arms and stuff, and it HURTS when they get ripped out of your ears. I cant imagine the same happening while tricking. Which is why I never trick without a loud cd player on hand.

haha I do this. I don't wear em' during all-out tricking sessions, but often times I'll throw on mt iPod mini when i go outside to kick. My headphones clip around the top of the ear, the pod clips to the inside of my pocket, and I run the wire up the inside of my shirt to my ears. Hell, this is pretty much how I look all day long.

I've concluded that portable MP3/CD players are for weight training and running only. I've tried to trick with them, and when the headphone isn't ripped from your dome your getting limbs caught in the cable. Silence or a very loud set of speakers.

May-14-06, 01:19 PM
I got a Sony MP3 player which comes with a arm/wrist/whatever band that attatches to the mp3 player so yea. That might work, but if you're moving your arms all around and stuff your headphones will probably get pulled out haha.

I havent used it in tricking really, but when I first got it I tried a couple aerials and backflips with it and it stayed.

The million dollar question is: "Where the fuck do you plug all your shit to?"

Do al of your boom boxes need batteries?

TKD_Andy
May-14-06, 01:40 PM
haha i trick with my ipod sometimes if i need a kick up the ass. I wear a bandana that i can move over my ears (its not a classic hankerchief bandana, its like a...well a its an elasticated band of material) and that holds the headphones in *most* of the time.

i remember once i was wearing my tkd trousers to trick in when i had my ipod with me, but no pockets! i ended up tucking it into the waistband. Suffice to say it flew off many a time.

ive got an ipod mini, theyre pretty good for durability, ive mashed the crap out of mine and it still works fine. However my cat chewed through my first pair of headphones and the second pair's connector broke. Ive got some new ones though, and theyre fine *fingers crossed*

I know what you mean tho juji having music is great, i enjoy it because it inspires me, esp music from samplers. Sometimes though i just like silence when i trick, and because i trick on my own most of the time i can get the silence. Its nice, helps me focus.

Still, those at the oxford gathering will know i was pretty much paralysed at the gym session, but when one of my fave songs came on i busted out the best r-off flash kick i'd ever done.

i trick with an ipod plugged into creative travelsound 250 speakers.

haha thats the same setup i use... when i have enough batteries to crank out the tunes.

Once or twice in a while I'll wear my MP3 player, if I have no "inspiration" to trick. It's an Ipod stuffle, it's actually pretty durable, no screen or multiple buttons to break. Nothing but a white stick really. Keep it in my pocket and feed the earbuds through my shirt, so that I dont catch the wire with my arm and it flings off, which is the most comon problem. So the most it does is get an earbud loose, which does happen alot. And these are normal earbuds, not the ones that do a deep probe on your brain.

I can't stand to have a pair of keys in my pocket, let alone a $300 piece of equipment dangling on me. It's something I could never do, but each to their own I guess. If one had a Best Buy warranty, they could trick to their hearts content and just get a new MP3 player when they fuck theirs up.

ALE?!
May-14-06, 04:31 PM
i destroyed one mp3 player from tricking, and now i've got an ipod shuffle. their headphones are larger than normal ones so they are harder to stuff into your ears, and hard to get them out ;)

I need to get some portable speakers, the boombox thing I have drains batteries too fast and they're expensive :ogre:

I wish I could trick with music more often, usually it's just silence.

Well iPod nanos have been tested by being run over by trucks and tossed off the top of buildings so it should be okay to trick with one of those...

I've got an armband that protects it. The headphones go up my sleeve and through the head hole. Looks like im on steroids though.

For those complaining about battery life of boom boxes and not having anywhere to plug them in, they make some radios for construction or worksite settings (jobsite radios) that use tool batteries (like a battery for a drill)

http://www.ultimate-electronics.co.uk/images/products/TBS017_Ultimate_Electronics.jpg

These radios can have anywhere from a 1-6 + hour lifespan depending on the battery you buy for it and the model. So it uses charge - and it's really nice. They typically cost as much as a normal boombox anyway. This is what I use and the thing only dies when I accidently leave it on; Otherwise I haven't found it's limit. And it's loud and got heavy bass too. (And a rollcage)

I used to just roll down the windows of my car and go like someone else mentioned in the thread, but it's not as good as an actual radio (And once my car battery died!); And my car player has a problem playing 50% of CDs because it's old (meaning, it can't play them at all - it just sputters and makes loud windy noises in the player)

For those who do trick with mp3 players, how do you keep the headphones on? I don't think anybody answered this? The thought of this boggles me.

i was just looking into boomboxes so that idea came at a good time. plus that thing looks like it could produce some phat base.... excellent!

i mentioned it earlier- use a bandana and have it over your ears to hold them in.

ive done it quite a few times, i used some old school retroish looking headphones that hook onto your ears/head. Then simply put the wire through the inside of your clothing and into a trouser pocket with a zip, unzipped just enough for the wire ofcourse. This works without any falling out/tangelage, that being said however ive only ever done tricks i can do easily with this arrangement. otherwise it would just be stupid risking landing on the ipod.

and by the way that boombox is the coolest thing ive ever seen juji, haha...'cos you need a role cage.

i like to trick with music but even if im walking down the street with a portable CD player and spot a trampoline and go have fun for a moment or 5 i lose the headphones after one back-tuck...so i dont know how that works out. I just end up finding a boom box where i am and using whatever music they are listening to...
i.e. at the gym i go to they are always playing their floor routine music...i just make the most out of that...but i occasionally end up doing some funky dance for no reason...if you have seen the team angled summer sampler you have seen this... :paranoid:

lol that looks more like a bomb than a radio. Anyway what I usually do is bring my mp3 player with some portable speakers which run from the mp3 player so you don't need any plugs or batteries, the only problem is that it aint loud enough (which I doubt that monster above has a problem with)

ive tried those headphones before. Theyre both uncomfortable and dont stay in.

Tricking with an mp3 player, or some sort of music device attached to you while you trick, is stupid. Crash the wrong way and you have an ipod nano smashed into your hip.
