In the beginning, He said, let there be light. And lo, there was a glorious flash and the universe was filled with light.

I think that's your answer.

Im pretty sure that exact date when tricking was born is not known by anyone, you better hope that Juji replies and tells you that he created tricking.

Thats my best bet...

It was your flash that started it all, Rook.

Hey, Less Than Dan, what does libertinage mean?

Less than Dan
May-16-06, 01:17 PM
Well, I know what "libertine" means, and it's a person without...how do I put it...moral or one who defies an established set of beileifs he/she is given. Damn, AP English was so long ago...

I'm going to go look it up.

EDIT: I was pretty close:

lib·er·tine ( P ) Pronunciation Key (lbr-tn)
n.
One who acts without moral restraint; a dissolute person.
One who defies established religious precepts; a freethinker.

adj.
Morally unrestrained; dissolute.

Libertinage is a alternative root to libertinism, which seems to be the word representing these points of moral (in this case, lack of) and living application.

Is it even a popular part of teen life? Most people don't know what tricking is...Your teacher might 540 kick you for not following the guidelines.

im sure his social studies teacher would be lax enough to accept this as a topic... its better than hearing fifteen essays on... bowling or something better known.

Asking when tricking started is like asking when the English Language started.

There is no discreet date at which it began, it's been continuously evolving and has been affected by many many outside influences.

That's not to say you shouldn't write about this shit, you can; just do it well. Talk about its influences BUT FOR GOD'S SAKE don't say that anything is an agreed fact (such as when it began or who 'founded' tricking). Tricking varies from community to community and even person to person... there are constant disagreements about particular aspects of tricking, so don't go saying things like "Joe Eigo started tricking" or "Joe Eigo is a trickster" or even "Joe Eigo is definitely not a trickster" - just say that some things are controversial.

Maybe it started when greek gymnasts got bored with their gymnastics skills and started using them in sparring. Write that in the project, no-one can prove you wrong.

thats retarded, haha.

you could reference the origins of wushu... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wushu_%28sport%29

and capoeira... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capoeira

and then how modern MA tournament go-ers whenever ago decided 540's we're sexy... and that backflips were good for impressing judges in creative forms, and how it just grew from there.

I guess I should've been more specific, my group has chosen to do the 90's decade, and now I'm not sure if I can do tricking as a topic :( since its influences (martials arts, etc.) are older, but thanks for the help anyway

musasabi
May-17-06, 08:10 PM
well tricking itself is most certainly from the last decade. its roots are certainly old though.
