Hello,
I'm new here and I hope, i can get some help here.
I'm from Germany, so please excuse my bad english, if it's really bad.

Ok, now my problem:
I am doing the backflip for...I think for half a year. But it's not that, what I want.
Here my Problems:
1. I don't dare, doing the backflip on normal ground. For the most time, i use a great pad or something else, what's not too hard. (sand, snow...) But why? I KNOW, that I can do the backflip good enough, so that I don't get hurt. What can I do? I'm so f*ck!ng afraid sometimes...absolutely senseless.
2. When I'm landing, I either land on my knees or fall down on my knees after landing. But what's my fault? Do I jumping not high enough? (Me on jumping as high as I can (http://www.benny.stc-board.de/downloads/benny_jumpup.jpg))

I think, that were my two most important questions.

I hope you can help me
Jump0r

P.s.: On what ground have you learned your tricks?

1. Get a spotter. They really help the fear aspect.

2. Commit entirely! Jump up, then right at the peak of your jump, RIP your knees into your chest. If this doesn't work, keep practising!

Also, the link to you jumping high doesn't work (for me anyway)

sorry, I wrote a false link...but now, it's the right one.

It's difficult for me to get a spotter. Can I use a cam as an alternative?

Your vertical jump is fine :)

A cam will help us identify what's wrong with your technique, but will not help you get over the fear of doing the flip on normal ground.

If you're either landing on your knees or falling over after you land, you've got to practice more. I'd say your problem is your technique.
Focus on
*landing on the same spot where you jumped off from - or close to it
*having a very (!) tight tuck with your head between your knees - do NOT look back, since that will only slow you down
Good luck! There are plenty of posts up here on the forum about backflips, and actually a couple tips that have not been written in such a hurry as these, so you could have a look around.

ok, thans so far.

btw...is my vertical jump really so good? (I don't know, wich height is good and witch is bad^^)

ok, ehm I will try making video tomorrow and getting a Spotter as far as i can.

But the one thing I don't understand...everyone sais, that you should jump UPWARDS, and NOT backwards. But the guy on the TT Tuturial jumps a little bit backwards, I think. Or is it only his chest, which goes backwards?
cause when I am doing my backy, I jump up as height as I can and THAN I rotate, but not earlier. Is that wrong?

And again: On what ground have you learned your tricks? Grass? Mats?

if you do a proper back tuck you, (or at least the same as me) when you are upside down you should be about 4-8 inches lower than your ass in a tuck jump,
bear in mind that a back tuck is not the same muscles as a tuck jump, well there are more used. But that is a good vert, only a few inch less than mine (and about 10 less than joe eigo) but vert is not the only thing that defines your back tuck.

How can you tell something like that? o_o

Anyways, I'm solely a grass tricker, so grass is where I've learned everything. I've been around for a while as well.

Look, I'll tell you now, the backflip is all about forcing yourself to do it over and over until you can do it in your sleep. Practice practice practice. Open up earlier. Open up your tuck to speed things up. Edit and adjust to give your backflip power, but your own personal touch. Mix it up!

I'm just saying that because I taught this guy to do a back tuck with the same technique as mine and I reviewed the tape of him doing it, and mine, and both of ours are ~4-8 inches lower than our tuck jumps. I guess 2 ppl is not a large test group..

Oh nono, don't worry about it. I just found it strange that ANYONE could tell his vert from such a picture :-D

Hmmm...I never did think about the tuck jumping measurements. Good call.

I updated the Videos today. It's a better backflip, but I think, it isn't very good, too. Don't you have any tips for me? :)

You're tucking way too early. First, you need to jump up as high as you can and when you're at the highest point, tuck.

yeah basically what villev said, just look at donvika's avatar, its pretty close to a text book back tuck.... and just commit to doing the back flip, not only are you tucking early but u are also opening a little early, just numbers numbers numbers and youll have it
