View Full Version : I'm afraid I'll destroy my ankles

Ok, I really need some tips on this subject.
first of all, here's a small video of my gainer attempts I did yesterday:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7YCXSxYBY0

As you may notice, each landing was extremely painful for my ankles.
Today I woke up with my right ankle fucked and I think I won't dare tricking for the rest of the week.

I watched Dogen's tutorial so I started conditioning and all, but I think that if I keep landing gainers and backflips this way I doubt my ankles will survive anyway.

Ever had same problem? The "heavy" landing goes away with practice or there's something I do wrong?

I really need help before the worst of things (strain or fracture) happens:sad:

1. Don't trick in shoes
2. Trick on grass
3. Try to soften impact by landing on the front part of your foot.

if i was trying to save my ankles in the short term, the last thing i wud do is take the padding off my feet and trick on a harder surface!

maybe strap your ankles up when you train, get some decent trainers with plenty of padding and if the pain gets too much, all you can do give your ankles plenty of rest!

i get shin splints if i train too often and this is what i do.

hahhaha

But yeah, ankle injurys and injurys of any kind are going to happen. Look at what we are doing with our body for christs sake.
You just have to be ready and be smart about it when it does happen.

Thx everybody for your precious support.
So, let's recap:

1)NO shoes if possible

2)jump very high so that I land on my toes

3)Rest

4)Train ankles with simple exercises everyday

Ok, tomorrow I'll go tricking at the park and I'LL FILM MYSELF AS I BREAK MY ANKLES AND SCREAM IN PAIN!!! YEAH!!

P.S.: Shido, your avatar is kakkoii, Art of Fighting/Ryuuko no ken is one of my favourite series ever:-)

ya id say go to grass and try not to land on your whole foot - toes first.
shoes are gonna make it much harder
also on your gainers it looks kinda like your just flopping over try to go up more then tuck/kick at the peak and put as much power into it as u can

as you practice more the landings well get better dont worry
