Before i enter the wonderful world of tricking. I just started today and have broken my nail already lol. I haven't practiced any jumping excercises yet and me back tuck is mucho low.
so the million dollar question is
Should i practice jumping higher before i try to back tuck or can i still do it with a roughly 24" vertical jump?
Great site by the way juju really put a lot of work in it.

No matter how your vertical is, you can do a backflip, if you just focus on tucking tight! Welcome to the site, and good luck with your training:smile:

But have you broken your nail OFF like me? I got most of it removed at the hospital today.
You're not pathetic, you just need to practice! And when your backflip is good, NEVER LET IT GO! NEVER! OR IT WILL SLIP THROUGH YOUR HANDS LIKE AN OILED WEASLE!

You aren't pathetic. If you dedicate yourself to tricking, you will become a great trickster. Even Jujimufu had to learn to backflip.

wo0o0h00 i almost got it figured out!!!! the key problem of me not being able to roll over was that i never had my head bend! i always kept it stiff and thats what stopped me from my body rolling over.

how do you find out what your vertical is?
Stand flat feet right next to a wall. Put your hand as far up as you can reach with your fingers covered in something. Mark the wall. Then JUMP as high as you can and reach as far up on the wall as you can and mark it. Then measure the distance between the two marks. That is your vert. Mine is pathetic.

your backflip would be 100000 times better if you used your arms and jumped up!

A good way to not lose a nail is to... cut em with your teeth not a nail clipper.

hahaha... no one is pathetic for not being able to do a backflip... except waterboy. :ogre:
but anyway. you need to find someone to spot you on your backflips... thatd be the best way to go about it.
watch this video: http://www.trickstutorials.com/download.php?id=finalback
thats juji learning how to do the backflip way back when.
just get a spotter and try it. if you can, also, get a camera to see what your attempts look like so you can compare them with people who can do the move. :swashy:
good luck!

first off a 24" vertical is pretty damn good. That's better than just about everybodies, but mine of course. I have a 27" vertical, but I also do plyometrics and jumping esercises. before I started those it was pathetic. So those can help quite a bit, but 24" is way more than enough to do a backtuck. Hell you could probably do a standing layout or flash. You just have to get used to flipping while in the air. It takes some getting used to. One problem might be(I had it) is that when you get in the air you panic and just want to land as fast as possible reducing hang time. but I could be completely wrong. This is just what happened to me
