Ok I've been contemplating trying a sideflip, so I've watched a couple of tuts, but one thing is confusing me - how come Dogen had to take a fat run up and block, whereas this guy:

just does it from standing?

dont try it standing if you are learning, i do it by taking a run up and blocking
