Hi guys,

The video:
Backflip (http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=B4CCA94D2BA056B7)

I'm trying this damn move for 3 days now, but I can't really get it, okay, I landed it once but I tried again today and just land on my feet but I have to put my arms down.
And thanks to Dovicka's backflip tut, I'm so damn close.

I think my problem is my chubby lower body, man my ass and my legs are so fat, maybe thats why I can't get the speed, needed for the tuck.
How is my form, am I doing something wrong?

Btw. to the progress:
Today, I stopped doing the bunnyhop
I'm not jumping back anymore
And I'm looking in front till the end
I tried to stay a bit longer in the air before the tuck, reaching the peak, but I wasn't very succesful.

Thanks for your advise.

it looks like ur whipping ur self back a little bit. if u look right after u jump your body is like this / Try to not do it so much. I have a problem with it too. Also tucking a bit tighter might help out. Since ur not landing straight on your feet. Try Holding your tuck all the way even after u land. That way u can examin how much u were tucking and ur less prone to injury since u should land flat on ur feet

I'm doing this / on purpose, because they often tell in tutorials to do so and I experienced, that I have more time for the tuck if I jump like that, but I'll try jumping up tomorrow, thanks.

its really not bad, perhaps set your arms all the way up even with your ears before you tuck. also many people find it easier to tuck by grabbing the outside of your shins instead of behind your legs. it allows you to tuck tighter so u might give that a stab, keep us updated on how it goes man

its all the arms, gj looking foreward. but in my backflip, it may not look like it, but i am throwing my arms up as hard as possible and as far up as possible, its like stalling if you've ever done a really high ro bflip or one on pylo, it seems to you that you are stalling for soooooo long, but if you look on a tape its just a split second. same with throwing arms up, throw them as high as possible and as hard as possible, your back tuck is really good now, but that will make it awesome, but don't be discouraged if when you get it you don't land standing up, the timing with your arms and legs going up and tucking takes practice, also the strength in your arms. Its already nice tho

I was typing this while the guy above me posted it, I actually caught your arms problem first :P

i like it, if you put some more power in your armswing and setup you could get some sick flips!

ya ur backflips is really good. Also i was gonna say about the tucking. I personally find it easier to tuck in the front than the back. Its more comfertable for me and probably for others. Give it a try. Might not work for you but who knows maybe it will give u that extra bit of tuck u need and you'll land better!

I just came from school and with all the new advices in my head, I started tricking.
And Yay, I got it on the 2nd attempt.

I think all I can do now is to get the right feeling and I could tuck more into my arms.
Thanks everyone.

Here's the improved backflip:

:juji:

In the end, it took 4 days and it would be possible in 3 days, if I would have come here earlier :P
It's all about the technique.

good, but it will make you flip a lot faster if you have your arms kinda like a shoulder press, yours is kinda like the top of a bicep
curl, don't think your arms have to go along the side of your body, if you do it like the drawing, you swing them until they stop because your arms can't go any further which makes a jolt (initial rotation) which makes you spin much faster.

heres a visual

notice in my avatar how my arms go as far as they can and stop, then i flip super fast, I bet you could land standing up in few weeks if you get that and practice

trust me man.. landing on ur knees on grass (soft grass) dosnt hurt at all... when i was learning em i landed about 50 on my knees and they were fine

edit... just watched the improved backflip vid.. man ... fucking props.. the advice that everyone gave u u did perfectly... i cant even tell y ur not landing straight... u go up let ur hands reach the peak and ur jump .. u look foward.. u tuck . the only thing i can think of to land it vertically would b maybe a faster rotation... sorry to say this dovicka but give him a week and he'll have a higher backflip than u

Not in a week, I'm doing a diet now in summer holidays and after that I'll be more flexible and not so heavy :P

Alright, I'll move to grass tomorrow.

Damn, seems like I overdid it yesterday, I've muscle stiffness in every part of my legs, I can barely walk
But I'm lucky that the weather is bad so I won't really regret it.

I hate my legs... :punched:

did you forget to warmup tao? it's important if you want to prevent any injuries and muscle soreness

but it's good to hear that you trained hard, i'm proud son

Of course I warmed up, but it didn't help that much :P
In the meantime, I'll train my upper body and try to do some handstands...

ah, in that case you just need to get used to that muscle soreness, it will disappear after a few days of backflipping, it's just that those abs aren't well trained

Dovicka
Jun-15-06, 07:42 AM
ya, i remember the sore abs, when i was 12.... it fades competely after a couple of month FOREVER

I think you need to just step up and throw it down. Not to be offensive but it just looked a little too
relaxed. Really explode into the air and the rest will be easier.

It maybe didn't look like, but I'm always exploding :D

your doing great man.
bearing in mind that the matress is absorbing some of your take off.
i can assure you as soon as you move to grass you will get more height.
also i think you could take off harder and remember to swing up those arms.
hard and fast.
