If you load it the same pull ups are better.

Would the benefits be the same if you kept your forearms pretty much perpendicular to the ground while doing a pull down?

Generally, anything that makes you use more muscles is going to be better overall for you. The pullup/chinup invloves all the muscles of a pulldown, plus you have to keep your body stable while performing the exercise.

hey i invented this new pullup bar in my garage you guys!

i mean i'm sure somebody has thought of it before but i've never seen it anywheres...

anyway i had an 80lb kicking bag hanging from a hook on the cieling but i had to take it down. so later i took a lat pulldown bar (connected a cable via hook in the middle) and attached the too. so now its a lat pulldown bar hanging from a chain in the middle!

they are much harder to do because they are unstable, but they're lots of fun and the pump is more intense because i guess it takes more effort to stabilize

anyway i can knock out about 15 with good form on that bad boy. just thought i would let you guys in on this concept

I think the Crossfit fags or something similar do that.

Indeed. They endorse hanging your chin up bar from a chain, cos if you try and jerk up using your knees you go swinging about.

So let me get this straight, pull ups are better since your using more muscles, sorta like a compound movement (squat) is better for legs than leg press?
