Drill cartwheels till you don't feel like you need your hands or your hands are barely touching the ground.. then you'll understand how its meant to feel.

i posted this somewhere else, if u want a karate aerial it looks like ur on the right track tho

i never really got too hurt learning aerials. a lot of people say "don't put ur hands down so you get used to it and just take the crash", but i never really did that. keep trying aerials with the best form you can and if needed, but put one or two hands down so u don't fall. then eventually when u get enough height/momentum you'll keep your hands around your head and they won't hit the ground. at least that's how i did it.

i'm guessing you want a gymnastic aerial because your drilling cartwheels. karate aerials are easier for me and are just a b-kick variation. anyway, for a gymnastic aerial. drill front/back cartwheels and work on turning your hips smooth and fast. the most important part for me in landing one was the leading hand. that hand must go behind and past your jumping leg as hard as you possibly can. i can't emphasize (however you spell that) that enough. the harder you throw that hand the more height you'll get and the faster you'll spin, what more can you want?

okay as you can see i still need to work on my aerials cuz my legs are bent, but never mind that for now. focus on my right arm. notice how it rips behind me hard. this helps me get spinning and gives height. and try to get your hips to rotate smoothly so u can get a good landing

Taegashi's tut is for Trickster Aerials and Juji's is for Gymnastics Aerials. Gymnastics aerials seem harder to me, but it depends on personal preference. However, the cleaner technique aerial is the gym one.

That's about where I'm at. I'm trying to force myself not to put my hands down but what ends up happening is I jump and feel myself starting to fall before I get my legs over, so I put my hands down and now I'm catching my weight on my hands. It's doing nasty shit to my elbows, so I'm taking a week off. The only thing I can reccomend is a camera and some way to watch the playback in super slo-mo, like frame by frame.

I gotta say though, when I try to do just a cartwheel now, it's fucking flawless.

I don't really have a suitable place for this, but I want to try doing the aerial off of something. I feel like I don't have the height, so I want to try and take height out of the equation for a bit by starting the skill at a higher elevation, like six inches to a foot higher than the surface I land on. Has anybody done that? Aerial off the edge of a raised platform?

I heard hills can help. I haven't tried it, but I think it should. My problem is that I'm overthinking them...I think. See! GAR! Whenever i go out to try them I start thinking about arms and hands and center of gravity and all this shit that just gets in the way of doing the damn thing. I need to not think...I think URG!
