View Full Version : BLocking for Sideflip
Hia, Im new at this. Only had like 2 "real" tricksessions at this time but since Ive watched and read this forum and the tutorials for some time now I think im learning pretty quickly (at this stage anyways).
Nailed the frontflip on my first atempt and I think its pretty much to Dogens Blocking tutorial so I decided to go for sideflip next cuz it not all to different from frontflip. The thing is that I cant seem to get the blocking angles right for making that smoothly sailing Sideflip like the ones Ive seen around this forum. I get around just barely, often landing on one knee and one foot planted, and I think its because I travel a long distance sideways..
Long distance and no height.
U guys got any advice for blocking sideways?

got a vid?
Maybe you could try to delay the jump and then tuck.

tao it depends whether he wants a side TUCK or a sideflip like a doubley-leg.
you've pretty much summed up up though, delay that shizzle.
Ive got a vid, but Im currently at work so I cant upload it until later.
U guys know any easy program for converting videofiles? I got a stupid camera that makes .MOV files thats not possible to upload on YouTube.com

search google for ImToo Mpeg Encoder (srry im to lazy to find a link right now:smile:) It can convert from- and to every possible video format. The free/trial version can only make vids till 5MB so if you want to be able to convert every size, and im pretty sure you want that, just lookup a serial from a website or something.

I said it because I've experienced the same like him, landing on the knees or barely on the feet.
So I delayed the jump and then tucked and landed it so good that I almost flew away, even when jumping so far to the side.
And what do you mean with sideflip or sidetuck? A sideflip is a sideflip, a doubleleg is a doubleleg.

just get your feet out in front of your center of gravity.
stall then tuck.
easy as pie. sideflips are the easiest move i can do.
Thx for the Encoder, a vid will be up soon.
Sorry for slow response, my internet has been hi-jacked.
Well here it is, Not the best of em but its the one of the few Ive gotten on tape.

make sure the jump before you takeoff isnt too high, your feet should land slightly infront of your chest, its more of a hop than a jump. Also stay on the balls of your feet
edit: i havent watched clipyet ill watch now
edit: i dont think blocking is your problem. use your arms (like wings, by this i mean your elbows push into the sky... its hard to explain without showing you haha) to get you height and delay the rotation a tad and you will be landing them easy every time
Just so you know, youtube does accept .mov files, my camera makes those too..

Try jumping over obsticles, filming and analyzing, and you're hardly using your arms, try delaying the tuck (your arms should first quickly get you up before you tuck).
good luck
yeah ur right. I almost never use my arm and that goes for most moves actually. Is there any good way to get a feel for it or am I up for some sensless drilling ;D
Alpha: Im not sure I fully understand that wing/elbow association but.. Well, guess I gotta try it and see it to get a feel for it. I would be glad if u posted one of ur sideflips so that I could watch the master in action :D
Ali: Hmm, must have done something wrong when I tried to upload it the first time then. Well wanted to add some text to it anyways so ;)
Jwizz: alright, good tip. Forcing me to go vertical by using obstacles. Ill try it in the near future. Hope I dont have to be alone doin it, I always get careless when im alone :D
Thx for all responses Keep em Coming :D

After the 2nd stage of the pivot just before the tuck I never manage to start it simply because I don't get enough air as there is no lot of knee spring or anything. Tips guys ?
