question,
i know most ppl who do front tucks at gyms with spring floors or off springboards etc. usually block (putting feet in front of them) and punch the floor hard (punching meaning pressing into the floor down/forward to get rebound off it)

now my question is, when doing a front tuck on just plain ol' grass, do i wanna block and punch my feet into the ground (pressing into the grass to get rebound out of it)

or

do i want to just put my feet in front of me and jump straight up, not really punch just use my own strength to jump up rather than expending energy into the grass to get rebound (aka punching)

confused on which to do for a grass front tuck

block and punch hard into ground or block and just jump

short answer: you punch

long answer: though you punch, it is quite a bit different than on sprung floor, you want to jump and punch as much as possible because a straight punch is not going to get you very high. also, setting technique is dozens of times more important than blocking technique (unless not blocking is what you do....)

ok, so what im reading from you guys is that you initially punch into the floor and while there also use ur own strength to jump up with the punch/punch's effects

correct?

meh... i just do the same exact thing on grass as i do on plyo... granted, i get much higher from the punch, but if you have a high, well-tucked front in the first place, doing it on grass is only about getting used to it... i love grass...

listen to snuggle, i was trying to learn how to front tuck from him last week ahha. But the main part of a front tuck is the tuck, if you take mine for example half of them are literally inches from the ground and i still make it around. Make sure you tuck and tuck hardand you will hit it, but blocking AND tucking makes this move feel like flight. Blocking/setting however, can be done a number of ways. I've set for front tucks with a shrug of my shoulders and my hands in my pocket, and tucked hard and been able to land like, standing up.

EDIT: i just actually read your post. Blocking will obviously help your front tucks, but not near as much as setting. standing fronts, for instance, have 0 block and rely purely on the set to get you around. and yet, you are concentrating on blocking with no set and can't land. Throw your motion upwards, ideally having your hands reach above your head to help you jump high (just think about dunking a basketball) then throw them back down toe your ankles and tuck at the top of your jump when you are up there. Try stanindg fronts onto a matress. Just drill your ass into the ground over and over until you figure out how to use your set to help you tuck without the block, then try to throw in the block and you'll be airborne

jump, it's easier on the knees and ankles.
