UM... ben brown's are more of a very laid back arched 540s...
In my opinion the kick in sideswipe should go over the shoulder, rather than a s anormal 540- sideways....

though I LOVE BEN BROWN!

IMO that kind of view is stupid. sideswipe is an inverted 540, meaning you just have to get the hips higher than the head.

I do NOT say that he suck, I just say that he need to kick alittle bit more BEHIND himself to make it a sideswipe.

And when you are TOTALLY inverted your kick goes that way by itself imo...
But if you don't invert perfectly you can have the same effect by changing the traectory of his kicking leg's movement.
I mean like terada's sideswipes...

Look fella. Just get your terminology and techniques right. If the experienced people tell you what is a sideswipe on these boards, then I personally would listen to them. Especially as a lot of people on here are leading the field in the good old sport of tricking.

A lay back 540 is a lay back 540, a sideswipe is a sideswipe, and an aerial switch is nothing like a suicide swipe.

An aerial switch is an aerial with a 'switch' in the legs. A suicide swipe is a completely inverted 'swipe' i.e. kick. Further i.e. not a 'switch.' A switch requires that you have a two leg movement, as you need to 'switch' from one leading leg to the other. A swipe is a technique where the first leg will often only setup for the final kick, it is not an essential part of the technique (it may be for execution purposes, but the focus of the technique comes with the second leg - the second leg carries the 'essence' of the trick).

now over time due to w.e reason the semi-inverted 540 has come to be known as a sideswipe.

so now due to terminology change, an ariel switch is an ariel switch and a sideswipe is an semi-inverted 540.

A laid back 540, when the hips are higher than the head? So... it doesn't matter how inverted you are, only the hip-head placement is what's important?

Sideswipe = inverted Raiz where the emphasis is on the kicking leg, whihc also lands the technique. You head is below your hips and the kick goes almost over you, but not quite.

Lay back 540 = 540 where you lay your body back to a horizontal level.

Suicide Swipe = a swipe which starts by inverting totally. There is no use of the first lifting leg.

Aerial Switch = and aerial where the first leg is thrown like the start of a normal aerial, and the second leg then 'switches' with it to land the technique. There is a very subtle difference and I can see why someone would get confused.

Then drill your 540's to stregthen your ankles..your body is saying to you, your not ready for this move yet. When i started doing then i hurt my ankle severly..couldn't 540 for about 3-4 months. I was back to basics wit tornados, then moved up to 540, drilled drilled drilled and then one day decided to sideswipe and bam my ankle dont hurt.

drill the basics. when you have a nice 540 and a good raiz ,go for sideswipe.

Yeah, I know I'm not ready for them yet.
I tried just for the fun of it.

My 540's are pretty good and I have a decent raiz, or even more.
But I need a lot more height or invertness on my raiz, or to try it from running start (tried from standing) because I lack height for sideswipe for now.
