View Full Version : help required
I've been trying to get a 540 Crescent, a side flip, and and aerial down. I've fallen on my ass a good 600 times, and as far as I can tell, these are my problems:
Side flip: not enough height? I don't know, but I can't land them consistantly
540 C: the only thing I can really think of is that I need 45-90 degrees more rotation with my upper torso to bring my RETARDED left leg around. It just doesent do what I want it too
Aerial: not enough jump I guess?

I put my 540's on their incase it's not having perfected my pre-req's that's the problem with my crescents.
Help please!

For Aerial, try to look up (In front of you) for as long as possible, it helps you get height, if you look towards the ground that's exactly where you will go.
540C just keep on drilling and testing out different take offs, pumps etc, everything about your kick, experiment and see what works for you, I'm not talking about finding a magic fix, just keep practicing and practicing, my 540C looked pretty much how you described yours, it took me a good week of drilling to get it right, and then weeks after that to get it consistant, I kept losing it and it went back to how it was before I got good ones.
How long have you been trying to 540C for? Anyway yeah I expect all it is, is more pracitce.
Been working on 540 C for about a week and a half to two weeks.
thanks for the advice by the way.

For the things you've asked help on...
Sideflip- It looks like you're trying to Block correctly, but you're not implementing your arms enough. You need to throw them UP and use your legs for Tucking FIRST, NOT the other way around!! If you watch your arms, you're using them to get AROUND, whereas your TUCK should be taking you around.
540 Crescent- Work on your spinning WITHOUT the kick- do it with the Chamber ONLY! Once you are comfortable with the Spin WITH your Chamber, then you can start to transition to throwing the kick out. For your spin, you're not throwing your non-kicking high enough, and not maintaining your Vertical Posture! If you're using the "dipped" version of the kick, you shouldn't be dipping until you're Chamber.
Aerial- If you are not Flexible, it would do Good for you to work on increasing that flexibility. That way, you can take-off with your legs farther apart than so close together (which require more Power). This will Help you with Technique too as you will be able to land it more and more Comfortably and thus increase Power and vary Technique.
I Hope that all helps!! Good Luck Training!!

for aerial, i would say drill more, and perhaps try to block with the foot you plant down, there's a small chance that can help. it looks like you already are, but throw that first arm around with a lot of force.
540 crescent, i would use a stationary spinning set up. it looks a lot hard to get that kick around when ur traveling in the air and when ur slanted. one more thing that helped me was to do ur take off and once your in the air and spotted your target, wrap your arms in and then kick. i used to try and do it by spinning the same speed throughout the trick, but i found that the spot and wrap works a lot better for me.
sideflip, idk cuz i can't do them either..

your sideflip is more like a double leg with bent legs, i suggest you turn this into a double leg my straightening out your legs and you will become cool :good:

Yeah, your sideflip is actually a double leg, just straighten out and swing em over. Your 540c... try not to dip your head down so much, keep yourself vertical in the move. Look for a target and snap your head around to see it.

Is a 540 crescent the same kick as a flying spinning crescent??? I was told somewhere that a 540 hook is the same as a flying spinning hook, so I'm assuming the same goes for the crescent, but I'm starting to doubt it. Club 540's tricktionary didn't help me with this. Anyone?
There are a million different names for kicks. I would suggest just DLing video's of the kick with either name and compare them.
The looking foreward didn't help my aerial too much, but I think I'll get there if I just drill it another thousand or so times.
As for the 540 C, the staying verticle thing helped alot, I can actually get a kick around now.
Thanks everyone.

Nothing against anything said here, but do not transform your current sideflip into a double leg. The blockig take-off double leg really just doesn't feel the same as the "pulling" take-off. I've done both, and I personally loooove the pulling one, and then just whipping my legs over. You'll actually feel your legs and arms pull you up. If you are intending to do double legs over barrels and such, I guess the blocking way is the way to go, though sideflips over barrels are awesome!
Now, to the actualy criticism. Now, you aren't upside down when doing the sideflip. I had a fear of going upside down because I thought I would crash sideways and that would hurt. And it did. BUT! It was more than worth it. Get a good block and just whip your hands up, stall, flip and land. The higher you go, the cooler it'll look, just watch some videos where you can clearly see blocking and also watch Dogen's tutorial on blocking, and then follow them to every detail.
What you do when you block, is you jump up, and then when you are about to block, there is no sideways motion you can use to launch you into your air. You're going up, and then down. Don't jump so high when you block, keep it low, fast and explosive. Just bend your knees a little and then prepare to explode with all your POWER!
Edit: Scratch this whole goddamn post, I just noticed you do kind of pull yourself up.. If you're happy and you know it double leg!
