what the heck. quit hopping around like a retarded monkey.
if you dont think you can 540 yet, then just keep drilling your tornado until it's good. turn your hips all the way over before you through the kick out (in other words, stall the kick until your non kicking knee is pointing directly in the direction you started.). that, and throwing your non kicking leg up as high as you can is what you should focus on when practicing tornados.
fair enough...i'm almost certain its something to do with my hips. something juji said about "creating a pathway for the kicking leg"

it's less to do with the hips as it is stalling your kick. bringing your kick out right off the ground is going to make your kick slow, not very powerful, and some other stuff that is bad. when you go to try to 540, your body is going to compensate by bending your leg so that you can get all the way around. bent legged 540 = bad.
so, throw that leg up high, and hold your kick in until your hips and shoulders are about facing the way your were looking when you started the kick. this'll make your kick fast and powerful, plus it's alot easier on the groin.

When you get to the peak of the kick you ought to chamber the non kicking leg to decrease the temptation to put it down, this will also make the 540 appear higher. To get around you should imagine something floating as your target and try to destroy it with the kick which will give you more than enough power to get around.

great advice..thanks
ya stall the kick and pull through with shoulders and hips. I think that little roundhouse or whatever is really slowing down your takeoff, if you need extra momentum besides just stepping over (which isnt necessary) then you could do a spin outside crescent with your nonkicking leg, then go into it.

Like what was said before, drill your tornados...tornadoes??? (I'm going with tornados). Just do those without all that setup stuff, and don't do that roundhouse before, it looks like it is slowing your rotation because you spin faster forward, but then you slow yourself down to prep for the rotation for the 540 and it looks really awkward. I could do tornados like crazy but couldn't land my 540s untill a couple weks ago because I wasn't torquing my upperbody enough. One day I just twisted like crazy and before I knew it I landed my first 540. TWIST!

I'm gonna try to make a 540 vid walkthrough soon, but until then. The set up is killing you momentum. Also, dont do the hook kick unless your going to do it in the same direction as the 540. Try it from one of these two setups. One is if you are kicking with your right leg, you start with your left leg back, and spin your body towards your left as you use that spinning momentum to to the 540. Or start with your right leg back and just take a step with your right leg and 540. Also imagine your kicking leg kicking OVER your knee that is non kicking. GL

This should like have been posted in the main post.. or maybe i should have made an own post.. but what the hell!
My Tornado is "superhigh" and "superstrong" and all that shit.
SO is it easier for me to learn the 540 by kicking really low and landing on the kicking leg until i can kick higher and higher?
Or is it better to kick high and try to make a good looking 540 from the beginning?

always, ALWAYS! practice good technique from the beginning. if you dont, you run the risk of learning bad habits, which will be alot harder to iron out than it would be to learn the technique properly the first time.

Thx Nick, higher and stronger tornadoes it is then!
ya, what nick said, try to do it full power from the start. If your tornado is good as you say, then you should have no problem with it anyways, stepping a nice tornado to a 540 is not too much of a change techniquewise, just a little fear.
