Ugh this is pissing me off. Well I can do a backFLIP ok, but I can't necessarily backTUCK. Basically I am flipping like a half-tucked back pike, but I want to roll over instead of flipping over. I hope I am not too vague in this. Basically I am landing farther back than where I started because of the flip, I wish to jump up, roll, and land. How do I do this?

hahah i have the same problem according to my instructor, tighter tuck and hold it for longer...

thats for me, but u need to make sure u are setting/stalling and then tucking too

sounds to me like you are doing like a kind of back flip whip over (arching ur head/back backwards)

look forward

I never arch my head, but I get my back horizontal, then try to tuck, but it just whips me over. Odd, I need to find a way to tape myself doing it for specific advise.

then in that case u are doing what i do...which is untucking too early

we both need to hold the tuck longer and tuck tighter

How about you grab your knees?

If I grab my knees, I just land in that position, all crouched up. If I grab and then untuck I just, I dunno, that doesn't work at all. :)

how do u land if u do ur pike thing? relatively standing, relatively crouched? completely crouched?

If I do the pike thing, I land from fully standing to semi crouched, depending on how high I jump, if I tuck, I just land in the position I tuck in, because if I untuck..it like..I don't get all the way around or something and my toes smash into the dirt.

edit: My friend says mine looks almost exactly like the guy in the club540 tricktionary example.

Looks just like that.

I have a suggestion that I'm surprised nobody's mentioned yet: JUMP UP! It's in every single guide ever written to back tucks.

jump straight up, stay straight till you reach your highest point, then tuck in tight and hard...otherwise you will not get the rotation....now just do it...

Dovica has a tutorial... though I'm not sure what the general feeling towards dovica is at the moment. :eh:

I actually have this problem too lol, i just don't tuck tight enough, and it's a issue about abs strength, do you practice tucking while doing a backward roll?

a high level roundoff backtuck only needs you to tuck for only about a second if you get enough height, because you also have to know how to open up for the landing. Look at my coach's roundoff backtuck for details
