Yeah, my toe kept getting bent every time i landed and its still sore from a week or so ago.. =p.
Woah! That huge hop before it... Dont do it! If you didnt do it, you would have so much more power for the flip, i know at first it feels more comfortable to do a hop, but i couldnt believe how high you hopped. Infact, looking at it in slow mo, its not a hop, its a full on jump!
DONT DO IT, the minimum hop should be about an inch, but even then, dont hop, try to just, jump straight from the ground.
Another thing, use your arms better! Swing them up hard! Up above your head. Also, try and stall it just a bit, your jumping straight into it, you'll get more height, but the first few times you wont have enough momentum to land.. But you'll get it.. Few more days, just get rid of that damn hop!
Also in the second one, it looked like you hesitated, DONT EVER HESITATE. Hesitation will get you hurt, refer to Snejk's avatar : http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/1127/crashoj8.gif
Remember, GET RID OF THE HOP. Stall it a bit, then rip your knees up to your chest and tuck as hard and tight as you can. Few more days of drilling and you'll have it. =p.
For reference, heres my backtuck, i know i land crouched, but ive been told i have good technique.

Actually, looking at that and comparing it to your first one, it almost looks the same, except that huge hop, and your not using your arms.

hey mate, thanks for the help, i saw your post of backflips on trampoline, looks like uve come a LONG way, i can do perfect aerials, more or less splits before take off, i have plenty of flexibility, i think its just the height factor thats getting me, Ill try without the gay hop, and ill use my arms

Matness>> A backflip on ground is hardcore no matter how crouched you land. I think you should be very proud of yourself, cuz when i saw your backflip attempt with ur brother spotting, I said to myself: this guy will never land a backflip by himself!:good:

I just took away the hop, and started with my arms swinging slightly but not up in the air, and took off, literally got about a foot more air! thing is, without the hop i keep bailing the bastard :dead: .
Just need to sort that out and i reckon ill have it.
Ive only ever been spotted like 3 times, so i cant say im doign too badly!
Thanks alot matness

make sure u get to ur peak height before you tuck, by tucking early you cut off your height so a stall is always good. Tuck tight! check out my avatar for a fairly clean example. My backflip was like yours about 3 months ago and now that iv got my act together its half decent. other than that just practise and have fun :good:

LoopingDragon, that's an awesome looking backflip! How long since you started landing them till you got to that stage?

a few months, my backflips started out looking like yours and they were really inconsistant, so i worked on my technique a bit and i can do em alrite now, even when im drunk!

You're problem is a little bit tougher then most backflip problems.
1. your rotation isn't fast enough, while it looks like you're tucking fairly small you haven't learned how to tuck optimal, this sort of this comes mostly with practice and air awereness so it's a matter of: tuck tigher but it also could be a matter of trying a couple of different ways of tucking.
2. you're jumping forward just a bit, try to elliminate that. this contributes a bit to the fact that you're not rotating fast enough.
Good luck

your stoping your momentum with the hop..and your not throwing your arms strait up or stall enough....well once your up there and have that down use your hips and legs to through you over...as much as i dislike him go look at joe eigos back flip because its really high and he doesnt even need to tuck he just uses his core
