View Full Version : clapping technique
Does anyone know the right technique for clapping on 360 gyros? (wushu outside 720s) You see this alot in wushu they jump, kick, clap, and spin 360. I can do them normally but when I try to clap I lose alot of momentum and land all wierd. Has anyone tried this? What do I doooo

its actually reffered to as slapping. anywho, put both hands up, your left a little higher then the right assuming your kicking with the right foot. have them angled at about 45 degrees. your foot should kind of naturally hit the left first, then drag down and hit the right...i guess you just gotta practice if it slows you down. It might be because you have to untuck your hands, which would technically slow your rotation.

*clap* *clap*
keep practicing dude, just don't stop the kick when you hit your hand. follow through, so to speak.
Ok, whenever I hit my hand it just makes a thud, hardly audible and very painful....what part of hand and foot meet together?

think surface area; as much of your palm as possible meeting with as much of your foot as possible at the same time. ideally you wanna hit the instep in front slap kicks and outside crescent kicks. For inside crescent kicks you'd be slapping the bottom of your shoes.
as opposed to karate chopping your foot or slapping the inside or outside edges of your feet.
a good thing to try and do is to pay attention to where your foot is and move your hands a little bit so that the foot comes in contact with the hand, as opposed to leaving your hand out there and hoping you hit the foot.
Another tip that might keep your hand from hurting that much is to snap the hand back once you've slapped your foot.
Haha that makes 540s so much harder to do now. The technique for slapping a 540 is like...so much different than the normal technique.

it's more of an upright 540 than it is a laid back one...i dunno if that makes sense or not, hopefully you know what i mean.

I cant try to 540 gyro unless i slap it, keep in mind i said try..I cant even come close
On people's 540 gyros do you enter the move with your non kicking leg bent (like normal technique) or do you keep it straight most of the time (like I see wushu guys do)
