View Full Version : Sideswipe
I have a nice fast and floaty 540. What are some ways of learning the sideswipe? Prerequisites? Mats, pit, working up to a nice one?

sometimes when i do raizes (i don't know why i bother though, they are really gay) i accidentally, because of muscle memory, kick and turn it into a sideswipe... so yeah, if i can do it by accident then it is easier than a raiz. snapuswipe is pretty easy too but obviously not easier than raiz.
JC how can you sideswipe and not 540. Sideswipe is an INVERTED 540! Wtf? Snapuswipe is NOT easy. Post a vid then. God, I ca't take anything anyone posts on this forum serious anymore.

hahahahahaha. raiz is the typical pre req...i mean its not an actual pre req, but learning raiz will help because when you raiz you get used to the invert, then hyper the raiz. a sideswipe is then created, just make sure to kick.
and how the hell is a snapuswipe easy?
When i siad sideswipe might be easier is because you use the kick... but thats if you can 540 easy ( which i am still wroking on damn 540...)
Raiz ftw

leadsinger im gonna presume you're talking shit until you release a sampler. even if you could snapuswipe why would you mention it on here? kinda destroys the surprise aspect if you were to release a sampler.
so yeah, you can't trick can you?
leadsinger
Oct-23-06, 06:15 AM
why would i want to release a sampler? i've got nothing to prove to you people...
and snapuswipe is hardly a surprise move, i thought everyone was doing it.

Oct-23-06, 06:16 AM
and why do you assume that because i make so-called big statements that i'm a lying noob and can't even trick full stop? you just can't stand the idea that someone so near to you has some kind of skill.. tut tut

all im saying is any non-fag wouldn't mention off hand that they can do a snapuswipe (in short, STFU)
actually, ill just add you to my ignore list.

yeah this board really hurts me bad sometimes!
ok now you really are on my ignore list (that means i can't see your posts) (specifically the ones saying snapuswipes are easy)

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oo!!!!!!
Stfu leadsinger. I came here asking for tips on learning the sideswipe and you post saying that "it's sooo easy, oo it's so easy I can do a snapuswipe! Snapuswipe is an easy move!"
If you spent the time to actually get to where a person who can do a snapuswipe is, you would realize why we don't believe you. People with that amount of discipline don't post like fags, well unless you're joe eigo.

sorry man, i suck don't i!! you wanted tips and i just went on about muself... so yeah: step backwards with your non-kicking leg and swing your arms towards your kicking leg's side (this is the momentum gaining phase of the move). then swing your arms back in the opposite direction in an over arching shape at the sametime bringing the foot that you stepped back with back forward, then immediately, with a 180 turn, do a mini hop to the other foot (your feet shouldn't be touching the ground at the same time) and thrust the nonkicking leg into the air while jumping off of the kicking leg.
at the same time as the leg movement your arms should have swung around and under then up again then jerking your chest towards the sky.
now that your non kicking leg is driving you to the point of inverting all you need to do now is do a scissor kick motion with the two legs which will kick you over to land upright. bend the nonkicking leg to help with rotation.
(what should have happened was the nonkicking leg is straight to start with and the kicking leg has just jumped and is now bent. then when you do the scissor kick motion the kicking leg should straighten and the nonkicking leg goes bent. so, in effect, they swap roles).
i think i may have gone into too much detail for even me (the person who wrote the damn thing) to understand. but maybe you can get something out of it.
sorry for being an ass, peace man.

ach what the hell i forgive you. buut im not the kind of guy to post negatively for no reason.
btw, if you really can snapuswipe ill pay for your train to come and show me at a gym session i go to haha. fo real.
The only reason I don't talk about myself doin a whole bunch of stuff yet is cause I don't have a video recorder. I need to learn at least 4 more moves before my 1st sampler anyway.

leadsinger i don't doubt that you can snapuswipe but i really want to see a vid of one if you have it--i wanna see what it looks like when you have them down so well that you call them easy :P

haha bah.... i didnt think you'd take me up on that. a tip from me though: don't mention any of your big moves and say their easy. it usually doesn't go down well.
sesshoumaru kinda did that on the bilang boards.... but then he al capowned us all which was funny.
anyways, i hope you can snapuswipe cos ill remember you mentioning it if you ever release footage haha
edit: hmm, ash green. whereabouts is that? i go to ones in derby, banbury and rugby at different times. usually just once a week though. :good:

oh rite you travel... i haven't been to the one near ash green but i hear it's got a full size sprung floor and stuff. but i hate sprung floors anyway; they absorb all your jump which sucks

sprung floors help you bounce right?
i must be thinkin about somthin' else
leadsinger
Oct-23-06, 07:52 AM
sprung floors help you bounce right?
yeah, if you have slow moving muscles that can utilise the slow compression of the floor. but if you have fast ass twitch muscles, then you can get a hell of a lot higher on a hard floor. (same reason it's really hard to do 720 btwist on a crashmat but... actually i won't go into that)
There are people I've seen that can do a back flip with their back completely straight on grass because they put so much energy in their back hand springs.
WHOAH! Huge error. I made a new post and it put it here... Like, a page before where it was supposed to be. Sweet.
Oh what the hell, it did it twice... o__o
*walks away* I'm staying out of this one...

haha thanks guys. i have tried a snapu actually... didnt go well, it was on grass and i was a bit too hesitant with the spin...
Ill try them some more :good:

Oct-23-06, 09:01 PM
ye, if you put that much energy in on a springy floor, it will just absorb your jump and you will go nowhere.
straight back backflips are called layouts and are easier from standing on a sprung floor to be honest. not much harder on grass from standing either. you should try it; just jump as hard as you can and keep trying to push off of the ground even after you have left it. that is the easiest way to raise your centre of gravity to cool heights.
in fact if you do that with all your tricks (including that sideswipe) it makes them a hell of a lot easier.

haha a good way to do it is not talk about it and release any new moves you have in a sampler or form. put a smile on your face and tell us how easy it is.
nothing against you leadsinger, some moves are just easier for some naturally. but you gotta understand even if terada said the move was easy, we might compliment the damn guy acknowledging he knows for 'others' its not as easy.
anyway, ill give him the benefit of the doubt until i see footage. i wont show animosity towards him but there is a difference between a "oh looky a lil snapu there" and a good snapu.
sideswipe, haha one of my favorite moves. i used to go on and on about this, but you've got great info on here already. i've internalized this move and what i've realize is that most guys have a hard time giving advice on their favorite moves that they've done thousands of times. if you would have asked me when i first got it, i'd have plenty and plenty of info for you
i'll just give you a few tips that strike my mind, based off of new things i'm seeing from people:
- Take off from a 540 setup obviously. But work the 540 setup wildly. Most people step into it like a suicideswipe after twisting 90 degrees on the ground. That's pretty much what a sideswipe is, but don't slowly step into it. Maximize the little rotation that is in the sideswipe with a forceful setup.
- Every asks where to look and by now it's been done to death. I find that where I look I will travel in that direction. I tend to switch it up now and then, looking at the ground (does help with invertedness but kills height) either behind me and the direction of my spin (facing N I look SW if I spin to the left) or down and at the direction of my spin (facing N I look W if I spin to the left)
- Invertedness comes almost like flexibility training, you might learn to go from a laidback 540 to a sideswipe in one day, but to go from an inverted sideswipe to a maxed out sideswipe will take a while as if stretching your side muscles
- Arching your back helps a lot. I've heard people say they can't do it bc they have little back flexibility, but I know guys with ridiculously funny back flexibility that can do this well.
-It's one of those moves that don't really have the opportunity to half-ass when you're first learning it. When you get it down, you get so use to the forceful movements it becomes natural.
-Your arms will directly the sideswipe. The arms tend to have a direct relation to the invertedness of your sideswipe.
Practice this move, kill it. There are so many variations to this you're gunna want to try when you get it down. Tell us about your progress and your specific problems if any. Footage would help us give tips.
Peace, keep tricking.

some really good points there joe :good:
i used to have sideswipes sorted, then all of a sudden i just couldnt do them for shit any more... i had to literally stop doing them becuase they got so bad.
then rook sent me a vid one day of his sideswipe, so i told him i'd give it a go, and i did the best sideswipe ive evAr done.
My tips:
- like joe said, throw EVERYTHING into the takeoff, because without that you wont get anywhere.
- i literally do most of the takeoff, then instead of my head coming back around to look at the front, i arch like a motherfucker, literally trying to get my head to bend over as far as i can, that pretty much kicks the lower body up into the air.
-WAIT for the kick! If you try and kick with a straight leg from the start, its really hard. What i do is have the kicking leg a wee bit bent, then as it raises off the floor the bend will increase, then KICK hard and you will be suprised.
The first few i did i literally went too high, i kicked too hard with too much height and overrotated them! After a few attempts i got it sorted and could land them.
Ill put it like this, for anyone that saw my old sideswipes, expect something a HELL of alot better... they'll be in my winter samp for sure.
*edit* actually, theres a cheeky one at the end of my masterswipe help vid, but im yet to upload it becuase its 940mb at the mo and when i try to compress it my computer dies!!!
*edit 2* heres a pic of my sideswipe

andy!! if you went too high on your sideswipes you really should be trying snapuswipe dude!! just kick diagonally towards the sky then try and kick your self in the back of the kicking leg's knee with the other leg and wrap your arms like a bitch. there will be a sudden WOOOSH when you spin really fast for a second then you will just land without even realising.

hmmm
from http://www.bilang.com/system.php?cat=board&page=index&action=display&msg=23194 :
"Good practice to get that "Whoosh!" spin feeling with your legs together. Try do a spin like you do a 540 hook, but with your legs wide open. Notice that,.... your rotation sux! Now try it with your legs normally and close together just like a regular 540 hook. Easier rite? NOW, when you swing that first leg up, swing it BEHIND YOUR RIGHT LEG."
maybe he can

I almost tried sideswipe today but got nervous and wimped out. It was one of those sessions though, but...I can't believe how much it messes with me mentally.
