heya, im a pretty raw tricker, so raw that eh, well im having minor problems with a tornado kick.. and i dont have the balls to go out and try a backflip on my own, so im lookin for a Michigan spotter! anyone actually, it'd be nice to have someone more experienced but, id be happy just to have someone to trick with!
preferably western michigan, driving 3 hours there and back to practice would be killer!

Holy crap you have to be kidding me. Dude, I'm from Grand Rapids. I lived here 3 years ago, then spent 3 years in Detroit, now I'm back again. There's actually a decent amount of tricksters in Detroit now (compared to before). Umm, I met a few tricksters here in GR but lost contact with them, so I don't know if I'll ever find a way to meet up with them again.

However, I've been training completely solo pretty much all the time since moving back up here. It'd be great to have a tricking partner again. I don't care if you're a beginner. I may have started this nonsense 4.5 years ago or so but I'm not incredibly advanced myself haha. I mean I've been backflipping and doing 540s and whatnot for a few years already.

It's fun helping new guys out too, so anytime you want to see about meeting up for some sessions, I'll hook ya up. There's a couple gyms here in GR I like to frequent. One in particular located in Jenison (about 15 minutes from my place). Maybe there's somethin up where you're at. Worth checking out, I wouldn't mind taking a little extra long trip if need be.

My AIM is Swartz85. Either get me there or send me some PMs here on the forum. Whatevers easier for you.

I didn't think I'd ever find somebody close, haha. Drop me a line man.

Hey, this kicks a little ass. I'm from Otsego, MI. I'll be going to GVSU in a couple semesters but it would be awesome to meet some tricksters and hang out in GR. We should get something started. I need to learn back tucks and aerials. I understand how they work, I just need a spotter and all that good stuff. My email is shortgorilla@yahoo.com if you guys want to hang.

Wow another Michigander. Well hey, if you have AIM that'd be better, it's Swartz85. For now I'll email you though. I haven't met up with WS here yet, but maybe the three of us can get some sessions going sometime soon. At the moment I'm going to do a little more gym visiting and see which ones would be best, since a few I've gone too aren't always the best option and I'd like to find something better. I know of 2-3 others I could check up on.

I'm gonna hit up Aerials & Baranis Gymnastics near where I live here again for the second time, uh...tomorrow afternoon and see if it's worth going to often. Gymnastikz Unlimited in Jenison is the best known choice overall at the moment. The only other gyms are like 1 hour long sessions which is probably good for me to go to as a filler once in a while but I think the G.U. and A&B are our best bets for group tricking. I really wonder if I could get away with getting Friday nights off work (not likely). That's the best open gym time for any gym around here haha.

short gorilla
Dec-22-06, 12:21 PM
Friday nights and weekends would really be the only realistic time I'll be able to get away and trick up there. I have classes all week, and I work third shift. But if you can scout those out and let us know whats up I am definitely down for some sessions.

Swartz
Dec-22-06, 12:39 PM
Well the only mid week open gym sessions are like 1 hour long and pretty much worthless for most people. Friday and Saturdays are the only realistic times for open gym sessions so that should work for you anyway.

Gymnastikz Unlimited-Jenison ($5/session):
Fridays: 6:30-8:30 pm
Saturdays: 1-3 pm

Aerials & Baranis-Near Me, Plainfield and Northland area ($10/session):
Fridays: 1-3 pm and 6:30-8:30 pm, also a 13 and up open session from 9-10:30, only $7, 30 minutes shorter than normal session. I'd like to try this one out because there's no little kids to worry about, ha ha, but might be hard with my schedule.
Saturdays: 7-10 pm (3 hrs rather than 2), cost is still $10, so good deal. This one might be busy because it's a little different, but maybe not. Haven't tried it yet.

Born to Flip/Horizon Complex-Jenison ($5/session):
Saturdays: 1-3 pm

NOTE: The top 2 I've gone too, mostly the first one. Second one would be great, even though it's $5 more. $10 may be a little on the high side but it's still not bad compared to a lot of gyms from what I've heard. More available gym times too, plus that Teen Night thing. G.U. is a good one to fall back on though for times and overall price. Only thing is it can be a bit hard with people in the way. Sometimes it's really empty though on Saturdays, so it's not bad.

Last one I haven't visited yet, but that's the info I gathered from their site. I'll probably check it out sometime and see if it's not too small or whatever.

There is another in Wyoming area but they don't have a reasonable plyo floor. The only thing I could make use of there for tricking was a long tumble track to work on moves that go in a straight line. Forget doing various combos, kicks or whatever else though that might go all over the place. Simply no room, so I don't even consider that on option for a group. I sometimes go there to work on a few select moves by myself.

short gorilla
Dec-26-06, 08:41 AM
Sweet. Like I said, I can't really trick yet but I'm a decent kicker. I have a lot of flexibility and I think with some good spotting/help I can pick up some moves pretty quickly. If you would post the address to the one near you I'll mapquest it for directions. Let's light this candle, suckas!

Aerials & Baranis (the one closest to me that I should go to more): http://www.abgym.net/opengym.php

and

Gymnastiks Unlimited (the one I frequent most so far): http://www.gymnastiksunlimited.com/index.html

More info than just an address there, I was meaning to link them up originally.

The other one you can just take my word it's fine. Umm, there's pretty much all the usual including a foam pit but I've never used it because it's always occupied with kids, and well I rarely ever go near a foam pit anyways. It's main feature is a faily good sized plyo floor, it's a nice floor too. It's inside a large athletic building that contains like 3 indoor soccer fields, so the gym just takes up the remaining 1/4 of the building.

Aerials & Baranis is bigger overall. About the same size floor from what I remember, maybe slightly bigger, plus a couple tumble tracks along with several trampolines.

As long as they don't have that huge inflatable kids course thing they toss on there, I'd say it's the best option, but twice the cost. $10 for 2 hours, rather than $5. I'm sure we could end up going to both here and there, depending on schedules and whatnot.

Like I said, both of them are good options compared to everything else around here.

Yes or come a few minutes late and if you see a dumbass trying to trick you'll know it's me, so I won't have to guess. Not that that's a problem since I'm the only guy around my age that does anything like this. Except maybe those 3-4 bboys that I've hung out with there once or twice haha.

Haha damn it you're in Detroit as well, that would have been useful if I still lived in the area like I did for 3 years but I moved back up here to GR last November over a year ago.

I didn't even know about that gym the 3 years I was down there, then again that wasn't very close compared to the others, had no reason to venture out that far. Nonetheless, if you could make it here sometime or we ever set up something in Detroit I'm sure we could get together. Or if I happen to be down there for some reason I could hit up your gym. Whatever. I don't believe the small group of us on this side of the state would make regular trips to that gym though haha.

Probably around head level if you mean a small hanging bag. If you mean one of the long ones well then not far off the ground so it can swing freely.

EDIT: Just saw a pic of it you posted in another thread. Yes the top of it probably around the top of your head, though seems you probably have it situated fine now anyway.

Uhhh, they'd probably be better to hit up for some sessions than us, since we're in on the other side of the state. Swartz
Jan-05-07, 10:42 PM
Yeah as far as landmarks go, the building is located right next to/behind a Meijer.

Just so you guys know this gym in particular only makes up about 1/4 of the building it's in. It's a big athletic building. The other 3/4 is indoor soccer fields so to get to the gym just go to the big entrance in front with the parking lot (obviously) and the gym will be directly straight ahead at the back end of the building, a little to the left.

I mean just keep going foward once you're inside and you'll hit it.

Otherwise meet up just inside or something where the consession and shops are. I'm guessing this time of year there will be plenty of people about with indoor soccer games going on.

I'll find you guys either way I'm sure. Oh and there's bathrooms to the right as you're walking inside. There's signs and stuff around but it's hard to get lost. I mean it's just 3-4 closed off areas divided by paths where people walk around to stands or shops/concessions. Really simple.

I'll try to get there around 12:45 as well.

Also don't expect me to do much tricking with you 2 guys this session. I'll help you out and maybe mess around a little but having done a leg workout session at the gym a couple nights ago, my legs are completely torn up. Walking is hard enough, much less tricking, haha. Maybe I'll time my leg workouts better so I'll be in better condition for weekend tricking. Just didn't do it this week.

Hey, that's cool Swartz. I'll really need your help anyways, and I'm sure Pete would appreciate it too. So to be sure, we're meeting just inside the main enterance? Well obviously I just called. I wish I had earlier but I'm still not sure I could have contacted short. Gym is closed due to some other event. Short, you're probably going to get this message after you've already made the trip there, and gone back...unfortunately. =\

We're going to reschedule this for another time. Perhaps next week or the one after, whatever works for you guys. Or perhaps another gym if I'm off on Fri or Sat. Anyways, sorry for this. Fucking bastard pieces of shit children. First map-quest, or should I say "Useless Pile of Shit" gives me such bad directions I would have been better off having a fortune teller will me there with her mind, but then when I finally find the damned place (at 1:05 no less) it's crawling with midgets and goblins. They had some kind of retarded competition for their ugly kids to see which one could flail about on the gym equipment the most comicly.

Thanks for trying Swartz. I'm ok for next weekend. We'll try next week to do what we were supposed to do today. I'll get you my cell number. I blame the whole mess on Map-Quest.

Swartz
Jan-06-07, 12:11 PM
Haha the mess is them being closed, but apparently you found it eventually, which isn't bad for having not been there before, and yet arriving only 5 after 1.

Yeah the event they had on the automatic messaged was titled "blizzard bash" or something equally gay, haha, and you got to see it first hand. I'm going to find out my schedule today for next week and if it's the same story then we'll shoot for the same time, but if I'm lucky and have Fri or Sat night off, we can try another time or place that might be even better. I'll check your PM now too.

short gorilla
Jan-06-07, 06:27 PM
Yeah, it was irritating. There were all these little kids and a bunch of tinsel and glitter everywhere. There were some inbred four year olds on the pommel horses and stuff just kind of sitting their trying their damndest not to fall off. There were a handfull of surly looking coaches standing around questioning some key choices they had made earlier in life. And of course there was a mad throng of family members, onlookers, and child molesters watching the whole thing in the stands. There were also those idiotic inflatable monstrosities taking up half the floor. *shudders*

Swartz
Jan-07-07, 12:43 AM
Yes, thank god it's nothing like that during actual open gym, well except a bunch of dumb kids, though not always. I love those Sat sessions when there's practically nobody there. I think one time it was just one other girl and then two staff members. I just ate up the floor.

Yeah, summertime. It'll be nice in the summer (half the time), besides outdoor sessions.

Okay I got my schedule and for some reason without having requested it off I got this upcoming Friday off. I work Sat night again so an afternoon session on Sat could still work BUT. FRIDAY NIGHT people. We could eat up Aerials & Baranis if we wanted to and it worked out with you guys. Either their main session in the afternoon or night, or the late night one that's half an hour shorter, $3 less and is exclusively for 13 and up. Throw me your ideas.

short gorilla
Jan-08-07, 05:55 AM
Hell, I could swing an afternoon session at A & B. We could even try to do noon at A & B on Friday and then noon at G.U. on Saturday. What time are the evening open gyms at A&B? I have to be at work at ten so I probably couldn't make that one. But... I can at least for sure definitely come to the Saturday session at G.U. Yeah... My arms are tired.

Swartz
Jan-08-07, 10:54 AM
Well A&B has the Friday sessions from 1-3 and 6:30-8:30, that evening one may or may not work out for you. I don't know if 1.5 hours is enough time to get back and be ready for work or not. Haha back to back trick sessions day after day. I've done it, and as long as you don't trick really hard the first day it's probably still worth doing it again the day after. However, do the opposite and it'll feel like a wasted session. Really up to you guys though. I'd go to both if either or both of you wanted to.

I'm done for anything on Friday, that means either A&B from 1-3 or 6:30-8:30 or G.U. from 6:30-8:30, and/or Sat at G.U. from 1-3 pm, so basically anything this weekend.

Just to be safe then let's stick with the Sat. afternoon thing. Like you said earlier, barring any unforseen complications that should work fine. Plus we can actually get ahold of eachother now so if something comes up we're ok.

Swartz
Jan-08-07, 10:36 PM
Ok well does that mean Friday night (6:30-8:30) is out of the question then? You didn't really confirm if 1.5 hours was enough time, probably would be pushing it but you didn't say.

short gorilla
Jan-09-07, 08:30 AM
Sorry. It wouldn't be enough time because I work out of town, actually south of where I live. It would take me that entire hour and a half just driving. Sorry, but for now I'd have to say yeah, Friday night's out of the question.

Oh and I need both of you to PM your phone numbers, because yesterday I misplaced my cell phone and have been using an alternate one, switched my number to it though, so no changes there, but I need both of yours again.

There's a TKD class this Saturday at 9 am. I'm debating whether or not I want to chance going to that class before our session. My buddy running the class said it would be kind of slow paced since there would be kids there. What do you think, Swartzy?

No honestly it's up to you. You know how your body works. I don't haha. I just know I'm doing no physical activity until Sat...well maybe a brief session Friday night by myself since you guys won't be available, or at just you. Not sure yet.

short gorilla
Jan-13-07, 04:53 AM
Well, it's Saturday morning. I'm going to TKD. You might not even read this before we we meet up but whatever. I've mostly been making filler conversation for the last page or so. So.......... see you guys around quarter to.

Great meeting you two. That seemed like a rather productive session and even though I didn't bust out as much as I thought I might have I was more than happy to help spot you guys for the tucks. The sooner you guys progress the more I get out of it too, but yeah, this is the start of something I think. I think next Sat will likely be another good chance for us.

Thanks for existing so that I may no longer trick solo all the time haha. Oh and I'll be sending you each your bit of footage Sunday sometime most likely. Won't have a chance tonight.

Oh yeah I'm sure it'll help. With the tuck it's all technique, much bigger guys do backflips but it'll help I'm sure, if not just the backflip but any future moves you learn. I think both of you will have it after a few more sessions though if you keep up at that rate.

Yeah after you left we were just briefly checked out another section of the building, and there's a line of arcade machines near the wall close to the entrance, on the left as you go in. I'd never really explored the place much so I didn't know they existed but anyways, one of them was the original X-Men game and Matt was like "ooohhh!"

Ahahaha.

Yeah you do that, ass. We need more people in Michigan. I'm so used to tricking with just myself. Found 2 training partners just recently though thank god, and there's actually activity in Detroit now after moving away. I think Michigan is actually starting to become trickster active. Showing early signs of it anyways. I'm still wanting to get a Michgan gathering going. Last year was crapped out twice as you may have remembered. This time when it's planned I'll be hosting instead so it won't fall apart haha.

Point is, you should come up sometime and if you do it'll likely be a nice little group of us.

Jan-19-07, 02:31 PM
Haha yeah we can't expect to all be able to make everything together this time of year when the only reasonable time to trick is usually a specific saturday afternoon session. That'll change eventually. If you can't make it, short and I will have to trick 1.5 times as hard each.

Dude, Pete. So, does this mean you're gay? Ha ha ha! I'm just kidding. My neck hurts like a bastard. It was a decent session, but there was some 4 year old with her mom there that took up half the floor all by herself for like 40 minutes. Can you come this Saturday, Pete?

Swartz
Jan-22-07, 12:03 AM
I am going to remember that session forever because of how you insisted on trying the flip alone and suffered the consequences haha. Like you got up all high on a few only to not rotate and BAM, back of the neck. Holy crap that would have made some good footage, too bad there wasn't a camera running for those ahahaha.

short gorilla
Jan-22-07, 05:25 AM
Ha ha ha shut up. Yeah that was fun. But hey, it was good experience. If the fear was still alive before that, it's seriously dead and buried now. Did you happen to get any footage of my crappy aerial attempts? I want to see exactly how far off I was (I know they didn't even resemble aerials). Email it to me if you have it.

Swartz
Jan-22-07, 12:37 PM
Actually when I went through your footage I only recall 2 things (besides some failed kip ups on the side), and that was a bkick that you had specifically recorded and a landed kip up where you made an obvious celebration in front of the camera when it was left on, without you knowing. It's hilarious. So I have a clip with those 2 moves made up already. If there had been anything else I would have added. Next time tell me to record anything you want specifically, I mean more so than you did before. I don't mind that at all.

short gorilla
Jan-23-07, 07:28 AM
I'm putting together a bunch of crap in my bag for our sessions. I'm throwing in wraps, targets, braces, first aid stuff, bengay, tiger balm, water, stuff like that. But I'm not bringing water for everyone every time, it's just-in-case-you-get-dehydrated-water. If you guys think of anything you want me to include let me know.

Swartz
Jan-23-07, 05:17 PM
Yeah I always bring water, and on top of that there's already a drinking fountain inside that building just so you know, refills and such, though my 2.2 liter is usually plenty for myself.

Uh yeah all of that is fine. I never end up bringing much myself except what I wear haha. I do need to get myself some ankle braces though.

short gorilla
Jan-23-07, 07:41 PM
You can borrow mine to try them out. See if you like that kind. My only complaint is that they adjust on the bottom too, which makes me nervous they might catch on something. But it's not like you can feel it when you stand/jump/kick on them.

Swartz
Feb-03-07, 05:34 PM
Neither of you should be sorry. I certainly am not. My power went out at like 5 am and didn't come back on until 1 pm. My phone happened to be dead and I had no way of charging it, so I didn't have an alarm to get up in time. Basically I woke up naturally around 1:10 or so, got your message short, and even if conditions were fine I wouldn't have made it to the gym at a reasonable time to trick anyway. It only makes sense they shut down (I assume that's what happened) because everything else was closed down too. Not worth the risk among everything else happening, like my power situation. You guys would have been on your own.

I even had to go to work because they don't close down even for bad weather. However they soon found it a bit extreme not to, so for the most part we weren't even delivering, just carry outs. The deliveries I DID take took forever and it was hazardous as fuck out there. I mean I got stuck just trying to get to work. Sent us all home and they'll probably close early, I'll be going back to help with that, but that's it.

The day was complete shit due to weather. I've delt with enough crap in the last 24 hours. Don't think I was ready to try and make a session with all this.

We have next week mostly likely, so don't concern yourselves. This just worked out for the better in my opinion. Having experienced the driving conditions myself, be glad your families kept you at home haha. You would not have liked it, driving or riding. Too damn hazardous. I haven't driven in this much crap before in my life.

Swartz
Mar-04-07, 01:23 AM
Probably not with my sleep and work schedule ho ho.

It's too bad it's not spring right now, it'd be the perfect times for a couple major grASS sessions.

Yeah they're dumb. "Well yeah we're closed because schools are" is what they said. The lady didn't directly state they were closed caue of snow, only because everything else was. I didn't think it was that bad compared to that other time. I mean it was bad but...come on. It's too bad you guys can't get around here for other gyms, though this time of year it's still just Friday and Sat for places. Actually I think there's another gym in the same area for the same times on Saturday. Horizon Complex. I should have called them haha. Never been there before either. Probably would have said the same.

Do any of you guys wanna try it out though? Well I probably will eventually. Same time slot, different place. Not sure if it'd be better or worse. I think cost isn't much different.

I want summer NOW.

Dudes, I have no idea what I did, but my knee is acting up. It hurts to straighten it and to push with it (going up and down the stairs to get to my compy is a bitch right now). I'll be there Saturday, but I don't know how much tricking I'll be doing. I'll still be there to act as camera man and hang out though, if my knee doesn't quit dicking around on me.

Mar-10-07, 04:48 PM
I feel like an ass, work got in the way so I never got a chance to call. I didn't come because of my knee, and I wound up sleeping through the session. If I had come to watch I would have gotten all gutsy, tried something, and damaged my knee more. It hurts to straighten my right leg and to push with it. Sitting down and getting in/out of my car is a chore. I have no idea what I did but it's actually getting better, so hopefully by next week it will be ok. It was definitely worse a few days ago, so that's a good sign.

But anyways... I got a new part time job delivering pizzas. It won't interfere with our tricking at all, but I thought I would announce it. Oh wait, I already announced that. I guess no one cared.

No I read it but didn't feel an urge to reply, haha. Sounds like your reasons were a combination of what we thought of anyway. =P

Yeah best to rest that knee. Our session wasn't incredibly productive. I experimented with a new frontflip takeoff that I think I'll start using more cause they're piss easy to land. Also got my aerial back again, landed several this time. Not much else. Pete and I worked on some of the basic ground moves a lot. Just wasn't the same without ya of course. Not even Nick or the other bboys were there. It was pretty empty at least, haha.

See ya next time.

Ha! A zombie did come scratching at the back door but Lindsey tore out his juggular. Oh wait, you guys have yet to meat my dogs. Lindsey is a golden retriever that hates zombies. I've trained her to rip out zombie jugulars, ruining their biting power, rendering them harmless. Sometimes we hunt zombies in the park together. Or little kids. You know, whatever is around.

My knee is doing better today, we'll see how swimming drills affect it. I might try some jumps in a couple days, that should really gauge my progress.

The hell if I know. I just woke up and my knee hurt like a bitch. I think it had something to do with my plyo drills, but I don't remember actually doing something to damage it, so whatever.

I can run up and down the stairs now, so maybe tomorrow some plyo? We'll see.

Side note: I was thinking of putting highlights in my hair. Any thoughts?

Put a blond streak in the front and call yourself Rogue. DO IT.

Ummm, also I did more gym research. It's amazing just how many other gyms there are around here I didn't look into with open gym. Thing is, almost all are Friday and mostly Saturday, same time as GU so no real point in them.

For me personally (since I doubt it's worth it to you guys to make the travel) I found one that has open gym sessions Tue, Wed, Fri and Sat all in the afternoon but only for one hour, at $8. Ouch, but for me I'd be worth it. Not far to travel for that amount of time, and even one hour by myself in the middle of the week would be a good help.

Hey PETE, Northstar Gymnastics in Rockford has open gym on Saturdays from 12-2pm. Didn't think you knew that, but I had looked it up. If coming to this one isn't always a good option, I just figured you should know you have easy access to one a lot closer to home.

Same with you SHORT, I noticed at least a few gyms in Otsego and Kalamazoo. Didn't look too thoroughly into them to see if they had open gym and if so what times and rates but you could look it up. Just look under "gymnastics instruction" in the yellow pages and call the various gyms around there to find out. Maybe you can find possible gym times besides Saturday for yourself if you can manage to fit them in.

On a side note, Spring is almost here. I went to the park to see if it might have even been possible for a session but alas it's obviously still very wet and snowy everywhere, though that's changing quickly. Maybe another month or so it'll be good to go.

maybe i can even get some tumbling lessons.. ~hopeful~

Oh yeah, Aerials & Baranis are having 2 special open gym sessions during Spring Break, uh...April 2nd and 4th, both days from 1:00-3:00 pm. They're probably the standard $10 each, but still, that's 2 midweek 2 hour sessions. I'm definetly going to try and be to at least one, if not both. If either of you might be able to make it that'd be cool of course.

It's too bad it's only for that week, and not year-round. =\

Also found out they can be rented out at group rates, which is especially good news if I ever get some kind of gathering going on down here eventually.

short gorilla
Mar-13-07, 11:14 PM
First off: No to the Rogue-do.

Second: Thanks for looking those up, but the one in Otsego is for little kids and there's not really a 'gym' to be tricked in. It's really a dance studio with some little rinky-dink tumble mats.

I knew about some in Kalamazoo but I never bothered to check them out because I don't want to go by myself. I will try to keep early April clear for those dates. Awesome. Oh, and the $8 sessions, I might be able to swing that after a couple months. Right now I have a class in that time frame, but when it's finished we can try to work something out.

Swartz
Mar-15-07, 08:25 PM
Wait, what $8 sessions did I mention?

Oh and tomorrow afternoon I'm going to A&B for their open gym. Was just gonna go to FTK but haven't been to A&B for that time slot in a while, maybe it'll be better than that one time I went on a Friday afternoon haha.

Yes I'll probably be a little sore for Sat but it'll only have been a day so I'll still be able to trick moderately decent...I hope. Trying to condition myself with more sessions.

short gorilla
Mar-15-07, 10:41 PM

Swartz
Mar-17-07, 12:13 AM
Haha I suck, I slept through open gym, well didn't feel the urge anyways, and at least I'll be fresh again for tomorrow. Umm, yeah Pete that's a good question but I don't see a reason for them to be closed. I'll try calling early enough to make sure, though I don't know if that's early enough for Short, since he's always there pretty early...usually. I mean if anything they might be holding a seperate event but I doubt a close. Still good to plan on coming of course, but like I said...I'll double check with 'em.

Short, A&B has technically 3 Friday sessions. First one is 1-3pm, second one is 6:30-8:30pm, and the third one is Teen Night which is kinda cool the one time I went, from 9-10:30pm. Of course, it's rare to be able to make any night sessions, which is why their mid afternoon one isn't a bad idea if you can handle 2 sessions back to back Fri and Sat (at GU).

They also have a Sat night 3 hour open gym from 7-10pm, but again...yeah...damn night sessions conflicting with work.

short gorilla
Mar-17-07, 08:04 AM
I could actually try to swing some of those afternoon (1-3) sessions on Fridays. We should try that some time.

I'm gonna go call this place real quick about St. Paddy's day.

According to the calendar on the website they are having open gym. I called twice, and either something is wrong with my phones or the lady that answers the phone is a bitch, because she hung up on me both times. Maybe it's both. Anyways, I'm going. I'll see you guys there or you'll die trying. Or something. I'm so excited I have butterflys in my pants.

Thanks for the vids dude. That was fun. I was suprised I held up as well as I did considering I haven't done jack in two weeks because of my knee.

I feel fat though so I'm going to start jogging.

Swartz
Mar-19-07, 01:13 AM
Haha well breaks off tricking can be helpful. Two weeks is nothing. The last 2 or 3 years during the winter time I did little to no tricking for 3-4 months straight. I mean...not even once a month sometimes. When I got back into it I noticed some improvements in areas, but general technique lacked in others. I guess it can be helpful and harmful, but that's why I'm not afraid to take a lot of time off it even if I'm uninjured. You might slip back a bit but it doesn't take long to get back up to where you were and go further, seeing as it's all stuff you've done before. To me, breaks do help you physically but more than anything, it's mental. You can learn a lot even when you aren't tricking through study and you tend to lose bad habits you had formed and whatnot. Of course, you might create new ones too but it's worth the risk when the pros outweigh the cons.

Though I haven't been very dedicated with it before, I plan on tricking full force throughout good weather this year, make the most progress possible and either eliminate it or do so very rarely in the winter to focus on other aspects of training (mostly lifting haha), then restart in the spring. It was a plan for this year until I met you guys of course, then I just HAD to focus on tricking again. Point is, it's going to rough at first coming back after months off but it won't hurt me that much, and seeing as I'll have improved physically elsewhere, it'll help with my tricking.

As I conversed with you before, it's quite hard to jumble both together, and I mean when trying to do each to the best of your ability. Something has to come down for both to work, and that kind of training doesn't suit me.
I'm just rambling now haha. End of this.

short gorilla
Mar-19-07, 04:18 AM
Ok, that plan I like better. What we had talked about before had me worried that when you got into lifting you might abandon tricking.

I plan on tricking a helluva lot this summer. I'm even going to make sure not to have classes on Fridays so I can take advantage of some extra open gym days. That or since there are some during the week I may try to keep all my classes early a.m. spread throughout the week, then go to open gym in the afternoon.

I'm going back to TKD this week, since my knee is pretty much fine. I'm a little worried though, because when I sit still for long periods of time it locks up and gets stiff and painful. This makes no fucking sense because I can still do the splits fine and I can run, jump, all that with no pain. The way it hurts though I'm starting to wonder if I have some bizarre early-onset arthritis in my knee. That's what it acts like anyways.

Well now I'm rambling too. So I'm gonna go lift soon, then swim, then get to class. Peace out, biotches.

Swartz
Mar-20-07, 03:01 AM
Well lifting would mean more or less abandoning it, but I didn't mean forever. I was referring to a seasonal thing. On and off.

Also I need a day job versus this night crap. That's too much I want to do at night and I'm a little tired of delivering pizzas now haha.

Ok, so we need a plan of attack. We can't let those little shits take over the plyo floor again. Also, the crash mat now belongs to me. I will kill anyone that tries to take it from us.

Also, I picked up a knee brace. My knee hurts off and on. I think it's recurring nerve damage from when I was in Cross Country. That or I have arthritis or MS or something terrible.

I'm going jogging today, and lifting, and TKD. All that good stuff.

Fark I'm bored.
