View Full Version : A problem in my knee-area...

About a month back, I pulled my hamstring kind of strangely, I think. It was during a gymnastic class, and I had been whipping my legs too hard attempting aerials. Once the free time came up, I tried out a couple b-kicks, and they went well. Then I tried some dynamic stretching. Whenever I did front raises, my extreme lower hamstring/upper calf area would kind of spasm. It was a very strange sensation that basically kept me from doing any sort of dynamic motion for around 2 weeks. It felt like the pain would occur directly down the center of my knee. It wasn't a bone thing. I don't think it was an A/MCL thing. It was just some weird pull in the hamstring/calf area. It subsided slowly but surely. Also, during this time, I felt nothing while static stretching. It was purely a dynamic-induced spasm/pain/whatever.

I slowly worked my way back up, and all is well, until like last Wednesday or so, when I was doing some deadlifting. On the same leg, I sarted to feel like something was being strained, after the workout was done. This time the sensation was coming largely on the sides of the knee, mainly the inner-side, right next to my knee cap, and it runs down underneath the knee. I did a bit more dynamic stretching on Friday, thinking I could work it out (which is always a bad idea, isn't it, you'd think after numerous muscle pulls on my other leg I would learn). The next morning I wake up, and the top of my kneecap was feeling retty sore when doing any motion that flexed it (like stances for kung fu, or squats, or jumps, or dynamic stretching). I no longer feel that pain (2 days later), but the strain on the side of the knee is still there.

I'm thinking it may be some sort of ACL thing this time, but I'm not too sure. None of my symptoms besides the -area- of the pain seem to lead me to believe it's an ACL thing. My joint isn't really loose, and the pain seems to be more on the outside of teh knee, rather than the inside (as opposed to the first injury).

Yeah, I should see a phyiscal therapist, but what can you tell me?

Forgot about something, the pain in teh top of my knee was most likely because I came down right ont top of my knee cap with the barbell during a deadlift. That's probably what caused this second onslaught of pain, but I'm sure ir was also because my knee area was already weekened from the pull/spasm awhie back.

Do you think there'd be any exercises to help strengthen this area again, without straining it beyond repair?

I doubt you will get any good advice here, other than...

...Go see a specialist.
