Balance and ankle strength (tibialis and calf muscles).

One arm pushups and pistols. Maybe some natural glute ham raises (maybe you have a quad ham imbalance).

All without a bounce up at the bottom.

How does doing one-arm pushups help in keeping stable landing on your foot after doing a kick?

Besides Dogen's titanium ankles, uni-laternal leg stuff (one leg squats, one leg deadlifts), and also I like those neat hemisphere stability ball things, they're fun to balance on.

Plus, you can always combine them and light weights like the cardio bunnies do and do sign language with your eyes closed to get crazy balancing skills. Some guy's sig has something like that involving an elephant.

When I was doing one arm pushups the other day I noticed that I felt the strain mainly in my core, which would play a big part in keeping stable.

Dig your big toe in the ground when doing grounded kicks.

Working your core muscles wouldn't make you more stable for landing a kick, although you could train those muscles I suppose. Generally, stability is pretty isolated to whatever position/move that's being done, and OAP/kick landing are worlds apart.

Unless of course, you fall and have to stop from hitting the ground by throwing out an arm, then it'd be good.
