Ok so i've wanted to try the deadlift for quite awhile, but was a bit hesitent because of all the "omg dont do it wrong" stuff (ive been doing bench and squats etc for awhile though). So I tried it today in the gym.. both stiff legged and romainian and I *think* I did it right, but its hard to tell.. theres a mirror in front of where you do it.. but you cant really see if you are keeping your back flat.. any tips to make sure that you *do* do it with correct form?

I can help. Read this:

After reading that, a tip and well known fact is NOT to look at pro powerlifter deadlift form. Watch any meet and you'll note there is a ton of variation and a ton of ugly, nasty crap going on when they get to deadlifts; So don't emulate the super strong fat guys when they break the weight from the floor. It is good to watch for motivation though.

yep, and another note regarding those powerlifters: in the videos you see they do maximum effort/weight attempts, therefore their form is at least slightly off in any case.
