Yes, stretching makes your muscles longer and more toned so they'll be sexy, best to train it with high reps. Have you heard of TurboJam? It combines the power of kickboxing, dance, cardio, sculpting, and abs.

Tone=residual flex in muscle. Residual flex comes from maximal/near-maximal contraction of muscle. Maximal/near-maximal contraction comes during high intensity(read as high % of 1RM) resistance training.

That is all.

Anywho, obviously you got that from reading Pavel literature. The thing about that explanation of residual flex in muscle, is that... wouldn't that make your muscles very tight and limit your flexibility? I'd think you'd want to be avoiding that... since Pavel also sells stretching books, it's sort of contradictory.

No, I haven't.

No, I didn't.

No, it wouldn't.

Yes, you would.

No, it's not.

Because...

...I don't buy into fad fitness products.

...Pavel isn't the only one to come up with that novel concept, it's fairly widespread knowledge, and is the true definition of tone. The problem is people misusing the terms tone and definition, along with some confusion as to what causes them, and to what degree size is a factor(none, and pretty significant respectively.

...the stretch reflex is a natural defense mechanism that rpevents you from overstepping your bounds. Strengthening the muscles(toning in the proper sense of the word) will provide the strength to work in extended ROMs thus preventing the stretch reflex from kicking in as soon.

...limited flexibility and overtight muscles lead to all sorts of postural, and later, movement pattern problems. But, proper weight training will make sure antagonist muscles are balanced.

...of the reasons I have listed above.

what specific stretches would you do for improving kicks & flexibility?

'Toned' should refer to colour. In which case, whatever gets you the most flushed would tone you the most. Apparently blood flow to skin is increased with greater intensity, except at maximal intensity where it reduces or something.
