Right..... i have been going to a gym for 2 months now, and im getting a really strange pain on/around my shoulderblades, but it dosnt feel like a muscle pain, i only feel if after finish a set of them and let go of it, while im doing them its fine but it like as soon as theres no presure on my arms and i get of it then the pain kicks it. I havnt done dips for a while now but does anyone know what the hell is going on?

maybe your technique isn't right. Your elbows shouldn't go to the oustside but stay in line with the dip bars. Kind of bicep to forarm motion, you will feel more tension on your triceps and less on the shoulder.

Without more information, we can't help you out too much. It'd be good to see a basic outline of your training, and perhaps a video of your dips so we can check form.

I used to get exactly the same thing, from dips too. As soon as I release the pressure from my arms and go back to feet, theres a flare of pain in my shoulders. If you release the weight verrrry slowly, you will find that you can avoid the pain. However, I think you should avoid any activity that pwns you like this.

I got the same problem from tyre flipping which was really hard on my wrists. Releasing the tension/weight quickly, causes a lot of pain. Slowly, is must less.

Drill the decline pushups for a while. Than do dips. Your shoulders are in weird position form dips. They can be trained but very slowly.

how deep do you dip? (Much) over a 90° angle?

i have the same problem, and i tried out some things. i felt less pain after i put my hands more together so that the distance between the hands became shorter!!
you should also try less repetitions (ca.5) and use additional weight with a belt!!!

You must have some awesome place where you workout because at my gym the 'dip rack' is chromed steel and the bars are pretty immobile.

Sort of like that one.

dips are shoulder destroyers.

It could be that your traps and rear delts aren't developed enough for your bodyweight, so that it's allowing your shoulders to stretch too far back during the motion. That's just a loose theory though.

you will damage your front delts if you make full rom heavy dips

Do you have any literature on this? Is just a loose theory you have, or something you grabbed out of the air?

My shoulders have always hurt after heavy/deep dips and I never knew why. I eventually just switched to bench pressing. If there's a way to alleviate this pain I'm very interested in finding out how!

Back it up, or shut it up.

Besides, this has pretty much been covered in the chinup thread.
