alright, so i got my first punching bag, put it up between two floor studs in the basement, fit a 4 by 4 in between them and attached it to the mid section, so im excited, quickly wrap up my hands and start boxing, success it doesn't collapse! i had fun for about 40 minutes, i go upstairs and my dad tells me it causes insane vibrations in the room above it, enough to knock glasses off the shelves, i find it hard to believe so i send him down and see for myself
its bad, really bad, so my question is, is there anything i can do to minimize the vibrations upstairs? id rather not re-locate it, but if anyones got another solution that doesn't involve 300 dollars, or buying a standing bag.. ^^ please help!

Meh, hang it on a tree. Or make your own support.

What if you bought a metal pipe that ran between the mid section, but stuffed a bunch of spongy shit inside it to absorb all the energy? I don't know.

What about that supporting beam in that room? Can't you hook it onto that one? Seeing as that thing is thick as, it should at least lower the amount of vibrations. Or as Nighthunter said, you're screwed. Find a tree.

Lol... i can't really help u, but i've got the same problem.

I put mine up along one of the wooden bars in my garage, and when ever i punch it the whole garage shakes, and if i keep going then it shakes loads, and things like ladders that we've got laid across the top of the bars, start to fall n shit, so i can't really go on my punch bag much.

The only time i use it, is if i have someone hole it for me, cos that seems to reduce the amount of vibrations quite a bit, it's just annoying when u don't have someone around to do it for, or who's too scared incase a ladder falls on them or something, lol.

what if you hang it from a really tight spring?

is it hung just by bare chain on wood? you could try wrapping the part of chain that contacts the wood with rubber or foam tubing. then putting a couple layers of padding between the chain and wood.

Get some foam and put it on the chain and put some between the bolts and the ceiling. That should lower the vibration.

The movement of the bag will cause the vibration... So another very good thing to do is chain it to the bottom too, so it doesn't move wildly around.

Might even be a good idea to attach a fairly thick spring.. such as a porch swing spring.. to the bar that attaches to the chain that holds up the bag. It may help with the vibrations.
