I have been stretching ever since I started TKD about 10 years ago. I am very flexible now but I still cannot do full splits. I am very close, being as close as an inch off the ground at times (been stuck at that height for a year now). I was wondering if I could get some suggestions to help push past the final obstacle to full splits. Thanks for the help.

thats flexible enough. if you overstretch youll loose power and you might possibly have problems later. id be satisfied with the flexibility that you have already. but if you must, then you must. make sure your muscles are warmed up before you stretch. this will make them more flexible. if you can, get a partner to help push your legs out and bring your chest down to the ground.

train for oversplits by doing the splits with both feet on 2 inch blocks.

Relax. Let all the tension out of your body and sink down into it.

do you do dynamic or static stretching? dynamic is the way to go imo for splits. obviously some static too tho.

Thanks, but dynamic's purpose isn't to increase your flexibility.

dynamic stretches jst help you warm up faster and achieve your max flex faster.

i had exactly the same problem man, i got really pissed off that i was like 3 inches off the floor, so i just stretched my box splits in my garden and just relaxed, exhaled, relaxed again and sank down lower. Just keep going until you get down there.

damn, i wish i'd have kept my stretching routine up haha

dynamic stretching increases dynamic flexiblity and static stretching increases mainly static flexibility. As the splits is a display of static flexibility you need to work on static stretches if you want to get the splits.
