View Full Version : Incredible Moose!

I've eaten moose meat and other wild meat all my life, but usually since I'm a hunter, I've never seen a "Nutrition facts"-tag on these poor animals, but nowdays when I live in the city and I have to hunt for food in the mall I did a new discovery "Moose is almost as lean as chicken"! Incredible indeed.
This massproduced product of "algskav", translated roughly to "elk-shreds" isn't even made from the most fat free parts of the moose, but still it's pretty lean!
MOOSE, MOOSE, MOOSE! GO GET ELK'd NOW!

Fucking YEEEAAAHHH!!!!! That's shit loads of protein considering carb and fat is bascially nil. I don't think they sell any here :agony: your lucky.

You should leap of to the nearest countryside market my young one, you have elks in the UK do you not? I think deer and rabbit meat is probably about the same, all these company bred cattle are just fat and overfed, back to nature!

have you never seen meat before? 20-30% protein is typical, carbs are always 0, and fat is commonly very low if you don't buy from crap sources, like karlnold says

Ha ha... *Shsssshh*
It's chewy as fuck though.
I got enough of 'Algskav' in the army thank you.. Even though I live 800kms north of Karlnold (which equals even more moose and more hunters.) I got pretty tired of this particular dish.
Now moose meat in general is lovely, Älgpölsa!

Hah, true! But not compared to wild bore though, but it doesn't matter it could only result in the same incredible jaw muscularity like Tom Platz had...

Some years later, I plan to learn to hunt. So I can kill animals in the wild and keep the meet in infinite deep freezers. I think bow and arrow would be a good choice. It doesn't seem as much a cheat like guns, but it's not as impractical as running around like Rambo with a blunt knife.
Anybody here hunt bow?

Ha ha, If you ever come to Sweden Juji I promise that I'll take you out on a hunting trip of your choice. I don't know anyone who hunts with a bow, not really, it seems to be alot more popular in the US. Bet it takes lots of skill though...

I'll probably trek to Norway in a few years. If you're still around I'll take you up on that offer and take a side trip to Sweden to meet more tricksters and to HUNT FOR FLESH!
:flesh:
Keep up the goodness Karnold! Eat the moose meat!

I will, I'd post you some if it wouldn't rot before it got there... And I'll stand by my word on that blood-hunt, just come on season, or fuck it, it'd be even more fun to do poach hunting...

I bow hunt.
I go spearfishing, not sure if it counts but you can still end up with a shitload of big fish and it feels rad spearing them through the head.

I hunt Rambo style. I hide in treetops then rain murder upon my prey instantaneously.

Yeah, fishing with spears and harpoons are so fun... I free dive during the summers and fish alot this way... So much more fun and not as much luck depending as regular fishing...

animal fats are stable and do not upset your omega6/3 balance ! Unless buying grain fed bitches of course. They are also less damaged by cooking.

if you're talking about isomerising cis- to trans- FA's... I don't think that will happen at the temperature hot fat might be while cooking

Weak fats like omegas and monounsaturated fats get screwed up by cooking, stable fats like saturated fats have a much higher threshold (sp?).

they get fucked, you will find traces of blood in the frying pan.
Seriously they tend to create wierd bondings and get oxidized.

you should consider investigating what you proposed about the fats getting fucked up. Find out what you actually mean, for starters. Then we can see if it happens or not.

if you expose any food to high temperatures in a frying pan it's probably gonna come out fucked! haha

Well it's not as bad as I though, oils only really get screwed by repeated deep frying, which is definitely not the same as cooking an egg with it. However it's nutrional value is diminished.

yea, I have no concern about frying with a valid fat source like grass-fed butter or olive oil.
Long-use veg oil as used at fast-food places for their chips (england), is probably getting dodgy.
iEatRAW

dodgy you say, chips are the worst food ever, along with fries, doughnuts (sp?) and soda.

im not sure what points you were trying to make about fats when you came into this thread. all fats are excellent in their own way.

No, I'm in computer science. At first I was thinking that cooking fats other than saturated was inherently bad, I found out it's still bad, just much less than I thought. The worst food part was a reference to mercola.com, which I find to be quite true.
I got a mule deer this fall. BOOM, HEADSHOT!
We had tags for moose (in the area we were hunting, you have to win a lottery to even get the ticket to hunt moose, and we got two), but we didn't find any. It was still fun though, and we got enough deer to literally pack my freezer. I can't put anything else in. Every night involved going back to the cabin and getting roaringly drunk. I even saw my dad smoke weed. "I haven't done this in seven years..." Fuckin' asshole gave me a lecture only six years ago when someone told him I'd been toking.

That lottery thing sounded hilarious.
"And the winner is.. 286!"
"Yay! Now we can go blast some moose!"
Deer and reindeer meat is veeery chewy though. Tastes great if you slice it thin and put it on a piece of bread though.

Ha ha, we got plenty of moose and wild beasts around here, even the bears and wolves are coming back to our forests, aswell does our "big cat"...
Ha ha, I prefer to hunt alone so I dont combine it with getting drunk or "toked up" ha ha... good story...

Haha, neither do I. We just drink after we're finished for the night. I don't know about you, but it's illegal to hunt after dark here. Although with the advent of nightvision, the law's kinda fucking pointless.
We get bears here too, black and grizzly, as well as the most highly concentrated cougar population in the world. I've been told that outside of Africa, BC is THE place to go for big game.

I caught a rabbit in my backyard once. I used a trap made out of a laundry basket, a brick, and a trigger stick (dunno what theyre really called)
I didnt eat him/her, freed it after looking at it a while.

Ha ha, I actually have nightvision goggles, I've only used them while luring fox's and stuff... I now this swedish guy who arrange hunting trips to BC, I've looked at the animals to hunt their and I was pretty surprised by the number of large species... It'd be a cool trip...
Ha ha, and yes, laws ARE pointless. I had a meeting with my lawyer today, he's a bloody genious and he's pretty confident about my case :)
D: this is horrible... but uhh HI karly :)
The last deer i shot i got turned into deer sausages!
They go so good with pasta!
Yay for the hunters!

My uncle hunts quite a bit with bow. I usually just take a rifle or if i'm up for a challenge just a knife lol.
Your welcome to come on a hunt for deer/pigs/chamois/tahr etc if you ever come to NZ.
EDIT: Someone bumped a post from Jan 2007....
Anyone eaten chamois before? It's kind of like lamb except a fuckload harder to catch.
