I don't know if anybody can even help me with this. I've looked around online for answers but found nothing.

Does anybody here even use Pinnacle Studio 10? There are some differences so it won't really help me if you're using anything else unless you just happen to know how the program works in regards to making the movie once you've finished editing.

For a while now I've wanted to use the DivX codec for my videos but the issue with Pinnacle is when I go to select a codec I don't see the version of Divx6 listed that I want to use for my video. I've downloaded the latest from divx.com so that's not the issue. The only possible option I have according to Pinnacle is "DivX Codec 6.1.1 [2 Logical CPUs].

I'm trying to produce my original widescreen format captured footage into .AVI using DivX but when I use the one listed here the highest settings gives me a rather crappy quality vid in the end.

What I'm really trying to find is a DivX codec window in itself where I can select the quality I want and all that. Any DivX option available though has the "options" button greyed out. I'm really at a loss here. If I remember right I was able to access this window with Pinnacle Studio 8. I don't understand why not with ver. 10 though.

I doubt I'll be able to find help here but I figured it wouldn't hurt to try.

I'd appreciate any recommendations if you're someone who's familiar with DivX, even if it involves a different method than what I'm trying to do.

Perhaps you could convert it into DivX with a separate program, after saving it with Pinnacle?

What is the advantage of DivX .avi over .wmv anyway?

I don't know of a good way to make any .wmv either, but that's not so much the point.

You're saying export it as a high quality large .AVI file with Pinnacle then somehow use the DivX codec to convert it to a DivX .AVI? How would I go about that?

I figured I could do it directly through Pinnacle, but if not, I suppose so.

firstly the advantage of xvid or divx over wmv is that the file size is smaller at a higher quality, there are better codecs than xvid but these take longer to compress and yrequire a more powerful pc to play them properly... So I still use xvid.

swartz: as for divx or xvid (they are pritty much the same thing except xvid is open source and divx isnt, which is why I use xvid) export the video from pinacle as dvavi (the file will be large) and then convert to xvid using auto gordian knot (http://www.autogk.me.uk/). Auto gordian knot is very simple to use, I normaly set the target quality to 55 then audio bitrate to cbr 96kbps and the width to fixed width 480. One all the settings are in just click add job and then start :)

Hmm, well I'll definetly try it out and mess with it, see if it's something I'll want to to use. Thanks for the help. Just in case, or just for the sake of having the knowledge, do you know how would I go about the same process using divx instead?

Umm, I'm not having any luck keeping my aspect ratio the same using agk (remember I'm using 720x480 as the original widescreen source). Gets screwed up. I've messed with the settings in every possible way.

I'm still interesting in figuring out the DivX Thing of course. Perhaps something that doesn't involve agk either.

shit i forgot to mention, auto gordian knot has some advanced hidden features that you can get to by pressing ctrl + F9 in here you can specify the aspect ratio you want to use rather than agk just doing it automatically.

With enough messing around I fixed that problem Andy. I think I've messed with the quality enuogh and everything to find something pretty good, better than anything I've been able to make before with other tools. I'd consider my issue here taken care of. I appreciate your help. Xvid and AGK = good stuff.
