It's been quite a while since I posted on this forum, and even longer since I went for a proper tricking session. Last time I tricked properly was with some guys for Portsmouth, and that was great. But it was also some time last year, and I'm very out of practice. After two years of tricking once or twice a week, I finally managed to get three or four basic tricks. Then the weather turned harsh, and injury kept dragging me down.
But more to the point, my ankles. My ankle. My right ankle! I haven't tricked for some time partly because I was scared my ankle would explode if I landed on it funny. It's been minorly sprained in three places, and much to my idiocy these sprains weren't treated properly when they happenned. So I tricked on them and sprained them a couple more times. One of my sprains was actually due to the fact my right ankle... Has something wrong with it. I can't bend my knee far enough past my toes to stretch my calf muscle. I don't think this is a cause of spraining, as it actually caused me to sprain my ankle at one point. My other ankle is fine and bendy and stuff, but my right is weak and for some reason has innate limited movement.
And here's the thing. THE THING. I stopped tricking, but I still get the urges. Every time I see a flat patch of grass, or little people doing malformed cartwheels. I NEED TO TRICK. And I want to start again, putting more effort in than I ever did before. But I don't want to be hindered by my ankle. Does the "titanium ankles" training really cover every aspect of strength in them? Because I dont get how strengthening my calfs and shin muscles will help prevent the ligaments in my foot and ankle from screwing up or just generally being weak. I NEED to fix my ankle. I NEED to be able to do calf stretches on my right leg. I don't know how I'll be able to fix that problem : /
If I'm sounding like a whiny bitch right now, it's because I am. Tricking is probably the best thing I ever did (even though I totally sucked) and I really want to continue with my progression. I had some sexy-ass btwists back then. Is there any advice you can give me on fixing my ankles so I can once again start consistant full-time tricking? Thanks in advance for any helpful peoples out there.
Ho crap, I type essays without realising it :dead:

I have the same issue, perhaps why i feel sorry for you...

My left foot, ankle area and across the top curve - not ankle as such, was either jarred, sprained, squashed some ligament or something during landing a roundoff (yes, roundoff lol) and it took around 3 months to become painless again at which point i thought would be fine to try start again so i did. I joined the class again and we did the usual gym stretches the instructor was running us through and then we began, but when we got to the roundoff's i screwed my foot again, unlucky for me...

Second time my foot was fine after 2 weeks. But recently i did it again but not as a result of a roundoff but as a result of landing in a crouched position (where the landing saw my foot on an angle which i can only describe as close to my shin, sorta) - So i'm back to the resting stage... (again)

I've considered seeing a foot doctor, which i might go do. They may be able to tell me why it happens since my right foot hasn't been affected but my left has, 3 times =/

visit a doctor/specialist and get your problem fixed. Problem solved.

Titanium ankles should help you. Your ankle will be able to support itself better. However if you suspect that youre injured then Dogen wont be able to help you very much. Ask a doctor or specialist if you think there is a real problem.

Thanks for the replies. This isn't my thread but i've benefited from it so i'm off to find the Titanium Ankles (thing) and then see if i must see a specialist about my foot.

Ta :)

It is in dogens signature, and on his site, if that helps you find it.
