Ive been practicing the side split and although i have gained considerable flexibility, i now get pain and/or this weird clicking in my hips when i go down too far. Does anyone know what this is caused by or if it will go away once i get a full split? Its affecting my excercises (like leg lifts) where i move my legs in a wide range of motion.
thanks

it will probably never go away, welcome to the club.

There are some good hip exercises which will stop this. It's normally caused by your hips being too flexible for the muscles around the joint. The clicking can be stopped by strengthening the muscles in most cases.

Someone told me that squats, lunges and pilates can tighten the hip joint to prevent clicks, I never tested that theory.

Stronger muscles can stabilize a joint to prevent injuries, but what about instability causes clicking?
