i was doing a c720 twist off my roof-... over rotated fall flat on my back my legs kept rotated and twisted my spine
cool. my spine is kinda messed up already. It's easy to spin kick with my right foot, but I have to press harder to get it just as good with my left.

hopefully some people can take advantage of this post instead of just joke about it , i always see people asking how to increase flexability LOADS fast but u can tell they dont wanna spend an hour on it, this takes about 3 minutes a day total and u can probly split in a month
you can't stretch to much though. I was strecting hard for like twice a day and in a week, my legs hurt not cause of the "burn", but cause I didn't give my legs a break and my bones hurt.

once again this is once a day getting into your position wich takes like 1.5 minutes... then holding it for a minute and 30 seconds.....

Jan-16-07, 02:34 AM
why do you say 1.5 mins max?
I've started stretching long duration like flex mutant advises. Holding stretches for many minutes, as long as I can until the joints start to hurt, at which point I stop it, and move about a bit.
Twice a day everyday will fuck u legs up.

I do not agree.
Gym 3 times a week, capoeira 3 times a week and stretch 1 time everyday of the week... I 'd rather rest and let my muscle repair but it's up to you. THat's why I don't do it 2 times everyday but if all you do is stretch than you could do it 3 times a day everyday... i wouldn't with my weekly plans though, that's what I mean't.
hey, that's pretty much my volume..except i have 4 muay thai sessions instead of 3.
And I found stretching twice or more a day also very stressful in addition to the gym and ma.
However you can do 4-5 times a day, if you have the time and mindset. Easily. 10-20 minutes each session.
how long are your mai thai sessions? Mine are 3 hours each :D

Oh my, i understand why you don't stretch 2 times a day, with 3 hour long Martial Arts sessions :P. My Taekwondo lessons are only like 1,5 hour each (3 per week).

please warm up before doing this
that's a lot of stretching and fi you stretch those muscles cold, you're begging to pull a muscle.

My tkd lessons are only 1 hour each, but I normally go to two classes in a row as a minimum. Anything less than 2 hours training is a wasted night in my opinion...
lol TKD is so pussy by the sounds... 1 hour!! lol! (just joking)

Haha most of the techniques for TKD aren't difficult. Training for me is more to just chat to some other people that love to train and get critique on techniques. Any serious training is done at home or at the gym...
But yes I agree, our TKD training is pretty pussy :P
In our 3 hours we get pushed around and harded up and arn't aloud water until 3 hours is up. I love it.

thats stupid
how can dehydration possibly be a good thing in anyones mind
It's a discipline idoit! No one gets dehydrated we're not stupid, we all drink 2 liters before class and we're fine, we can all drink after anyways. You shouldn't be drinking in class though you should be training non-stop. There no time to drink. It's ace.
The whole 'no drinking water in MA class' philosophy has still not gotten through to me. What are possibly the benefits besides creating people that could possibly dehydrate themselves in the future if they haven't been drinking enough during the day?
Now I also endured that mindset during my old MA classes and I didn't really mind. It just doesn't make sense to me, that's all.
Doesn't everybody in the western world drink over 2 liters a day? I do so it's not a problem. What's not to get? There on time to go to your bag.

Depriving your body of water is about as counter productive as anything I have ever heard. Just because it makes it harder doesn't mean it's a good idea. Tell your Trainers to fuck off, because there is no situation in the world that water deprivation is a good idea.
Fuck a duck!!! Do you not read my posts? NO ONE IS FUCKNIG DEPRIVED!
I hear what you're saying AJCN, but not allowing the class to have a drink break isn't "hard core"... Mind you its probably a fair bit cooler in the UK than it is here, so maybe you don't need as much water as we do.

clearly you have either not trained for long or have not reached a significant level. Training at home has its uses but it should not be where your "serious training" is done. How can you improve your technqiue if your instructor cant tell you where you are going wrong. Perhaps if you took your training seriously instead of going to class for a chat then you would advance quicker and start learning the more difficult techniqes.

Possibly one of the stupidest things I have heard.
I dont think you are in any position to call someone an idiot when you allegedly train for 3 hours without taking any water on board. Drinking 2 litres before is nowhere near as effective as drinking less more often throughout the class and will actually make you less effective for the first hour or so because you will feel bloated.
What exactly do you mean by "harded up" as based on what you have said so far your instructors sound like morons.

90 minutes. But after 90 minutes of muay thai you don't have much endurance or power left anyway.
Some more dedicated ppl like me hang around in the gym for ~30 more minutes though...sparring for fun, hitting the sand bag or just improving our techniques through exchange.
It's rather interesting how much you can learn only from other trainees just through experience and trial and error.

I doing as you tell im doing a strech like this for 3 days and i see a little improvement. mabe its because im doing flexabillity or mabe its because of your thing i dont sure

After 12 years of training, I don't need an instructor there every time I train to correct my technique. My technique is pretty much down pat, thanks for caring.
I should probably also mention that my dad's been running his own school for 4 years, so if I need a second opinion, it's always readily available anyway. No, he's not my instructor either.

OK fair enough, you didnt say that before. I have trained for a little over 10 years and also find training on my own allows me to do more of the stuff I feel needs improvement rather than just banging out the same patterns week in week out. Handy that your dad has his own school

No problems. Training in a class is just a bit restrictive, because you can only do what ever the rest of the class is doing, eg if it's a self defence class, you really don't get much of a work out (we have a limp self defence syllabus).
Funnily enough, I actually got my dad in to TKD in the first place :bandit:
Funny how this stretching thread turned into a MA one lol! *pwned*

@Steve: Come on man, the guy is just trying to give some useful info. Maybe it isn't something radical, but at least his post made some people start stretching! (which ofcourse everybody should be doing already!!!)
