How to dilate you pupils.

Dilating your pupils usually happens when a optometrist delivers a special medicine to the eye that makes everything blurry for up to 10 hours at a time. This makes reading small print such as books and magazines near impossible.

The aesthetic look of dilated eyes is pretty fucking cool tho, and is an awesome tradeoff for not reading for a couple hours.

The technique I will be describing is simple and can be turned on and off at will.

You'll wanna start by practicing in a mirror.

This is the simple part and really the only trick to this skill.

You need to suddenly lose all focus in your eyes. Completely blurr your vision. If you think you've done all you can blur some more. (You won't be able to see the sudden dilation in the mirror due to your vision blurring, but trust me, it's happening)

This is generally what your eyes will look like when blurring for the first time.

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j198/towlie2110/Picture40.jpg

Notice how there is direct light shinning on my eye yet it still retains the dilated pupil (This can sting a bit at first)

To suddenly and dramatically reduce the size of your pupil all you need to do is focus as intensely and hard as you can on one spot in the mirror. Your pupil will suddenly shrink to a size of about this.

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j198/towlie2110/Picture44.jpg

The same amount of light is shinning yet the pupils have found a new size of substantial difference.

The trick to impressing/freaking people out, is to rapidly switch between focus and blur to make them wiggle in and out of dilation. This growing and shrinking of your pupils creates an eerie effect that unnerves most people looking.

Of course you will only get better at it with practice, but now that you know the trick you are ready to get out there and give people your "crazy eye"

lol enjoy

I would want that tutorial. The only time my ears move are when i hear a surprising sound. Like a dog or something, haha.
I didnt know when i put my eyes out of focus that they were dilating. Cool.

I like it when my kitties have dialated pupils.

They look so cuuuute, then i get a compulsive urge to squeeze them and tell them how cute they are then when i am not satisfied i squeel like a maniac and i squeeze them till they get angry. Then when they get angry i get pissed cuz they r no longer cute

When i get pissed then kitties get thrown into walls and then i yell at them and if i catch them, i rape them. Lol they always come back for more eventually

Dilated pupils absorb alot more light though, I remember when they put those bloody drops in me and dilated them. Had to wear sunglasses due to my pupils over-absorbing the general light.

So yeah, cool but damaging in the long run.

very true. for example. having your pupils dilated and using a flash camera is PROBABLY not a good idea. this will lead to misfiring of neurotransmitters and will also probably damage your retinas due to the fact that alot of your rods and cones are exposed to the light toxicity. because you dont have constricted pupils to reduce the stress of your plumply exposed eyeball, your protection against this damage will be decreased, which in turn...basically...means that youre stupid for exposing your dilated pupil to a light with high intensity.

have a nice day!:wise:

Lol I never said it was the definitive tutorial of the year.

It's a fun little trick.

I would like to think the repetitious practice of dilating and undilating your eyes would eventually strengthen your eyes to some degree.

But fuck, I'm not a doctor.

Thanks, but I don't want to be blind one day and the negative effects could probably come many years later.

Jan-17-07, 02:15 PM
Lol, what do you achieve with any trick?

It's amusing.

It's not as damaging as they make it out to be.

Yeah it would be damaging if you dilated your pupils and then stared at the sun or at a bright light. But in an average lit room you can mess with your pupil size without a huge health risk.

(The next tutorial I would make would be on how to make your fingers "Double Jointed")

This is just a trick to freak out your buddies which I can achieve perfectly fine without dilating my pupils and saying "Look guys! I have shark eyes!!"

Towels I want you to provide PROOF that this stuff is not damaging in a long-term sense even in an averagely lit room. I know for a fact that I had to wear sunglasses indoors, no matter if it was brightly lit or just your average normal lit room.

Proof Towlie!! Proof!

Flowers
Jan-18-07, 05:33 AM
I had my eyes dilated and the doctor said if I go outside to wear sunglasses, but that I was perfectly fine indoors.

I don't know of anyother proof other than extremely low UV rays indoors.

lol That's what I was wondering.

But, yeah. My eyes are too dark for that. I highly doubt it'll damage your eyes long term, though. And I've had my pupils dilated a couple of times and no doctor told me it was a necessity to wear sunglasses outside much less inside. All it did was hurt my eyes a lil if I wasn't squinting or whatever when I went out into the sunlight cause my eyes were taking in too much light.

Have any of you been able to space out, out of specific focus, and see shit around you warp? For instance I used to space out on my ceiling and I'd begin to see it ripple or sink down; or coming to a stop after being on the road for a while and seeing the road stretch forward as your stationary. I'm assuming this may have something to do with your depth perception?
Either way..just a thought. >_>

A few things about dialating you pupils..

On the thirth picture you can see that the pupil is small. When you accomodate to a object close to you, you set in a range of motions. You accomodate, make your pupil go smaller, and your eyes move divergent.

(picture 2) When you dont accomodate it works around the other way. Thats what makes you pupils go bigger.

I use dialating drops regular for my study. It is no problem your pupils are dialated, but just becarefull with sunlight.
Bright lights itself dont damage your eyes, unless you shine a bright light for a few minutes into your eye.

The thing that damages your eye is the uv-light in sunlight.

So, if you try it, dont look into the sun.

i cant do this 'trick' myself.. i doubt that it is possible to dialate them as far as you can see on the first picture.

One more thing. If this trick is possible, becarefull. there is a risk you block the outflow of vitrious in you eye by doing this trick.. When it does you can damage your eye permanently. It also can cause alot of pain(i mean, not just a bit but really really painfull).

Yes I've had that happen to me. It's also the thing when you close your eyes and feel like you're sinking into whatever you are lying in. It's freaky shit and I always end up having to move after a couple of seconds because the feeling is just so weird.

as soon as you take your eyes out of the blurry state their in will they contract back to normal?

i can't seem to get my eyes to dialate as big as the pictures, but i also read that you can make your eyes more dialated if you tighten your stomach muscles and think of something or someone you really like.

This sounds like an interesting exercise. Isn't it some kind of muscle that controls this too? So working it out, might make it easier over time...

Since you can't see yourself, telling whether or not it's working for sure requires a partner or something. Another option would be if you could get a camera feed and some kind of computer program which can measure the diameter of your pupils and give you a sort of biofeedback.

Since it can't be visual feedback, I guess it would have to be an audio readout. That could get a bit annoying. Maybe as an option, you could set a 'base' level, and when you surpass that, a pad you're touching gets slightly hotter, or maybe a buzzing sound gets louder, something like that.

this is called the accomodation reflex

it is brought about by focusing on nearby objects - in order to do this the eyes converge slightly and the pupil constricts to prevent light from scattering onto the periphery of the retina to prevent the image from blurring.

it cannot be 'excercised' as the muscles responsible are different from the voulentary muscles of the skeleton etc.

it also would definately not produce the effect seen in the first picture which has clearly been caused by drugs.

As for the other pictures --> they are just taken in low light and hence horribly grainy..

:)
would be tricky to learn to do this 'free' without a nearby object to focus on like the mirror..

Because this guy bumped it.

Not only that, it seems he made an account only to make this single post about the accommodation reflex.

Regardless, I found it interesting (not only for subject matter, but for "Why would this guy make an account just to say this?")
