Here It is:
http://www.tricking.co.uk/trickipedia (http://www.tricking.co.uk/trickipedia)
Well I had the idea, because all the tricktionary's and things like that weren't really working, I thought that the wikipedia way of doing things would probably be a good idea. So i set this up. Currently it is just running from a server in my house, but eventually I will put it on a proper full time webserver.

So any way any suggestions?

It would be really useful if you could add a page or add more usefulcontent, even if its only a little addition it will help in the long run.

Edit: oh yeah if it doesn't work for u my ip is dynamic so it will change if i disconect so dont worry just post a reply and ill fix the link, should get a static domain sorted soon

BIG EDIT

locke had already bought hosting and a domain name so trickipedia will be found at www.trickipedia.net (http://www.trickipedia.net/)

discuss it here : http://trickstutorials.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19599

i dont want to rain on anyone's parade, but does wikipedia know you're using their same format?

if they dont, i smell copyright infringement.
unless if they're fine with it, trickipedia sounds like a good idea.

MediaWiki is free (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_software) wiki software (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki_software) licensed under the GNU General Public License (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_General_Public_License). It is written in PHP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PHP) and uses either the MySQL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MySQL) or PostgreSQL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PostgreSQL) relational database management system (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relational_database_management_system). MediaWiki was first developed to serve the needs of Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia), a free content (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_content) wiki-based encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Encyclopedia), but it has since become one of the most popular general wiki solutions. Today, it is used by all projects of the Wikimedia Foundation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation), all wikis hosted by Wikia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikia), and many other wikis (http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Sites_using_MediaWiki), some being large and popular.[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_Wiki#_note-0) It has also been deployed by companies as an internal knowledge management (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knowledge_management) solution, and as a content management system (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Content_management_system). Notably, Novell (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novell) uses it to operate several of its high traffic websites, which are not editable by the general public.

The moderator idea sounds like a good one. It'll weed out the crap.

As far as your question goes. I think it should be kind of like club540's tricktionary (ie. Description of the move and a small clip). Also, tutorial links could be added if there are any for the particular trick.

bracey
Jan-21-07, 04:35 PM
i was thinking it would encompass about everything about tricking that people need to know or can be bothered to right down, i was thinking about just having links to particular locations of tutorials coming off from that particular tricks page but then i decided it might be better to keep it all self contained

i will make some people mods soon
but im going to move the whole site onto a better server and set up a domain first

Hey mate, are you really 15, if so, your above intelligence of most 15 year olds.

Nice idea, allthough, if you get your own domain and ftp servers etc, are you willing to pay them by yourself? This site has potential, just don't ruin it.

I already have a domain name for myself, they aren't too expensive and i don't mind getting another one, considering the site will not take up more than 100mb i dont think hosting is a problem either, moving all the mysql databases may be a bit tricky but ill figure it all out

Haha, well it looks awesome - i'm rooting through as we speak - i've already added 2 moves.

If i were you i'd look through Sesh's tricking 101 and add shit from there or alternativly PM him and get him to add/edit loads of shit on the site

i dont want to go around picking off bits of peoples stuff really, asking him to contribute would be a good idea i guess.

we could use a good template on every move page listing the move its origin(s), and more.
i might make a template, it would keep things a little organised so it's easier and better to read.

edit:
i just studied the entire list of tricks, and i think it would be better to keep the fake/1337 tricks apart from the real tricks. it's okay to have stuff like angels but if we want this site to be a real database it's better to keep track of real tricks. i'm not saying we should remove anything, but just keep them apart from the actual tricking tricks.

man i edited a lot today, some people really need to think twice before posting a move. some descriptions are vague as hell, and some people can't spell for shit. and who lists 'splits' and 'outside crescents' as tricks, i mean, that's just stupid.

"A feilong kick landing on the next leg (the second kick) by means of overrotation"

It's by switching the 1st kick to make the 2nd hyper, not by over rotating

So...basically a hyper feilong? That's what I get out of this description.

alexx, slowmoing a video then making it a gif isnt a great way to do it, its better to set the frames to display for longer instead. Also in future I think gifs should be a bit smaller. Its gay if you are only on 512 and the gifs take years to load :(

Jan-28-07, 06:45 AM
I would estimate around 100 X 100 pixels per avatar. That's a decent size and allows you to have more than 8 colors without it being too large a file. If you avatar is much more rectangular than square, you can obviously compensate as needed.

yeah, try keeping every gif at about TT avatar limits if a good idea. The gif loads quick and the trick is clear. I would say no bigger than 200kb per gif is ideal.
