Hi guys, I'm new on this forum and I just wanted to say Hi. but, more importantly I am in need of some assistance. I am new to this "tricking" and I am not a very flexible person. I was wondering what routines you guys do to obtain the side splits. I know this topic might have been made before, however i found nothing useful. The things I want to find out are:
- What kind of workouts/streches
- How often to stretch, and during what part of the day
- Is there a test to see if I am able to side split (People on this forum say the test on the flexibility page is useless?)
Also, I do not care how long it takes me to do the side splits. 1 month, 2 month, 6 months, or 1 year, it does not really matter to me as long as there is an outcome in the end.
Thanks

Look at the adductor stretches in Juji's flexibility section. His flexibility section covers pretty much everything you want I think.

The easiest way to test whether you're capable of doing the splits is by trying them...
With a certain amount of commitment the splits are actually incredibly easy to get, since they don't require much technique/a fear factor etc., it's just that many people are too lazy to stretch often enough.

How often should i do those adductor stretches? Should I do them daily? Also is it a good idea to stretch more than one time throughout the day?

They are better when you are warmed up. This does not require a 20 minute run beforehand.... it just means that after activity/later in the day is preferable to earlier in the day. Basically it is not as good to leap straight out of bed in the morning into sidesplits. Youll get no-where.
I think that the best slpits stretch is... the splits. The wall ones etc are ok but after extensive training using teh wall stretch i can vouch for its ineffectiveness (13 hours+ over 3 months did not much).
if you stretch for 5 minutes 10 times a day you will get the splits quite fast. If you stretch for 12 seconds onve a fortnight you will not progress.

ALWAYS warmup for at least 10 minutes. Anything to get your blood flowing, your heart rate up, it will make it SOO much easier to make progress.
Also remember a lot of people who give advice about the splits can't do them. I think more than half of the members on here can't do them.

people should do some research before asking 10 times a day: ''i do i get side splits?'' juji's flexibility article is great and covers pretty much everything you need to know. consistent stretching ftw.

Its bad but i usually stretch in the morning afer my shower. its become part of my routine however so i am stretching consistantly every day. My overall flexibility has improved but its going slow.
you generally stretch for what you want to obtain. Im stretching in the morning when my muscles are cold, so now im prety good at doing cold stretches, however when im all warmed up, my flexability isnt that much different because i havnt worked on obtaining flexability when warmed up.
Ive been working on these for a long time, much longer then it should take anyone to get the splits, thats because of my stretching method.
so, if you stretch warmed up you will make progress faster, and if you stretch cold you will make progress slower, but in my opinion its good to have an ammount of cold flexability because that way, its harder to hurt yourself if you find yourself in a situation where your not warmed up and you end up in an akward stretch.
