It all depends on how you're trying to learn the trick. Most people learn the GMS by using it in conjuction with a cartwheel (ex. cartwheel > GMS). If you're trying to learn the GMS from standing, then you're probably not going to be able to do it (from standing is the hardest way).
I'm sure you already know this, but it would be a great help if you can already Masterswipe. If you can't, then I suggest that you aquire that skill first.

I don't think masterswipe helps a great deal... In fact I GMS the opposite side to what i MS haha.

This proves that you thinking that "knowing how to MS doesn't help a great deal when learning how to GMS", is ludicrous. Other than you, who else GMS on the opposite side they MS on? Can you GMS on the same side the you MS on...cause if you can't, then your above statement doesn't "hold water".
Alpha...I'm not sure you are aware of how much the "special case" you are. Your reasoning behind alot of things that you do make me feel like this (:punched:)

haha, What I meant to say was that learning a MS isn't neccesary to get a GMS. I was wrong to say it isn't helpful. Special case? lol, I think learning tricking without a martial arts background just gave me a different approach to tricking. For example when I learned a GMS it was as a side-flip variation rather than a masterswipe/cartwheel/aerial variation. I then changed the motions of it so that it looks like it is an aerial variation.

It'd be too much...I can easily see some one breaking their leg at the knee trying to (msl) GMS.

Really? I see it as entirely plausible...
But than, I'm not nearly as experienced as you are.

I would think that anyone learning a GMS would be able to MS simply because its so easy.

Oh gee man, haven't you seen the majority of TT members pulling GMSz? Basically, do a gainer switch but turn sideways. You just GMS'd lolz!

Grandmasterswipe is easy
From a cartwheel anyway, haha. Just put in a lot of force in your cartwheel and explode upwards on the gms when the first cartwheel leg touches the ground / easy.

you should stay facing sideways throughout the whole move, going into it like a gainer flash is cheating.

I've never tried it. I must try it I guess. In fact, I will. On Monday. Goddamnit I'm sooooo ill. Anyone else on here got an ear infection...?
I learnt gms by trying to stall the masterswipe. It worked. Do the same.

I'd just like to note that Scalco's standing GMS (check out the NY gathering) is almost too good.

no hands.
Teehee, Kaos and I landed GMS last session both on our first attempts
It's really easy. I can't even masterswipe that well either... it's just cartwheel + power.
