I didn't make this but I thought I'd link it I don't know how effective this method is for learning the aerial and I'd try but I already know how to do it but.

It might be good

What's the correct hand movement in the aerial, just 2 hands going straight back? wouldn't it turn into a webster kinda of move?

A good way to learn EXCEPT for the whole mat thing. Not so much as it's bad as I think unnecessary. The steps he went over though in a progressive order was good, and I especially like the arm motion part for the actual aerial because that's a big key to learning the proper aerial he's demonstrating (more gymnast kind then trickster). Straight in other words.
What's the correct hand movement in the aerial, just 2 hands going straight back? wouldn't it turn into a webster kinda of move?
Only if you let your torso/head and all that go straight down and around like a flip. It's going to turn slightly to do the 180 rotation, dont' actually try and force it though. This is what made the aerial easy for me suddenly after trying to learn it the proper way. Bring arms down together, not one after the other like you see with most trickster aerials.

It's hard to explain, I might just watch the vid and try it yourself. It works, that's all I know. Go down into it straight but kinda have your better ready to turn as you come off the ground. That's the best way I can explain it. Yeah it's weird. Like I said though...it works.

I guess I'll give the hands movement a go. Perhaps I'll be able to push a little bit more height from my aerial

You guys should put alot more of those videos out on the web. Seeing as how I live in sweden, I can't train this type of Martial Arts, and as much as I would like to I can't.
Living in sweden is preventing him from learning to trick FTW.

Someone should link those comment-leavers to Tricks Tutorials. They obviously have no idea about learning this stuff.

No, because then we'd have dozens more of the same kind of people that make up the majority of the forum already.

I've actually been experimenting with different aerial techniques, including this one. I find that it throws you around faster, but at the expense of height.

alright so now there are 3 different arm motions; switching them, throwing them forward and throwing them back like in this video.
They're all equally easy and look pretty much the same, so i guess it doesn't really matter whatever the hell you do with your arms as long as you put some power in it.

Spacey
Feb-21-07, 04:25 AM
It does matter alot though, if you use a bad arm motion you won't get your shoulders out of the way which will just kill all your rotation

flipster
Feb-21-07, 05:21 AM
yeah i know, getting your shoulders out is important but the direction you throw your arms in is personal preference, none of them are correct or incorrect

there are 3 methods, swinging both arms forward, swinging both arms back, and switching them. It doesn't really matter which one you choose. You can choose the one you like. However most tutorials only note one of them, as if that method is better than the other 2. You actually made a tutorial telling people there are multiple methods so we are in agreement.

if you misinterpretet my post and thought i meant you can do other stuff with your arms like putting them on your back or something, then i can understand your post, but c'mon, you know there isn't anybody on this world who would think that. Please put some effort in trying to understand people's posts and stop insulting me, i don't care if your calling me an idiot, really you can't offend me. Your only wasting your time.

you said theyre all just as easy as eachother and they look the same, they really dont!

hence the reference to implied idiocy :good:

Feb-21-07, 07:44 AM
guys you gotta remember people have difference preferances than other people. all three methods might work equally for flipster, and that doesnt mean all 3 will work for tkd_Andy.

Feb-21-07, 07:53 AM
elim, im not saying the different methods work better for different people, that's a given.

saying theyre all as easy as eachother and that they look the same is a whole different story :good:

Hell, Swartz and I were just talking about this training method, then I see a vid. I think I'm going to try this whole mat thing. My aerials are virtually non-existent anyways, so why not.

yeah i see where you're coming from.
I learned all 3 methods and i use them all. Once i got used to them, they were equally easy for me and although i can only speak for myself, i don't think there's a (big) difference in difficulty, at least not big enough to say one of the techniques is better.
IMO it's fair to say they look pretty much the same. Of course you can see a difference, but in every trick there are different styles and techniques and stuff.

yeah shengoikee i feel the same haha, it looks kinda lame tho if your not using your arms

I never really got an aerial bevor and then i tried the ryouko aerial and it took me about twenty tries to stand it. Itīs actually prety easy once you get the technique.

Yes.

I feel that people tend to focus way too much on the arms when explaining the aerial. In my opinion the arms have little to do with the technique as a whole.

That's right for the gymnast aerial where you pretty much just throw your body down and lift up your back leg. But some people like Juji reach forward and really use their arms in their aerial to get more height and it makes the variations much easier. Just look at Juji's supreme aerial switch.

My aerial switch isn't too shabby either. And I still feel it has very little to do with the arms.

Sure, using my arms more might gain me a minimal amount of hight. But from a beginner's perspective if you're setting up thinking, "Right, so if I just throw my arms over this way", you will certainly die.

wow team ryouko comes correct with good technique? russian lifts in aerials are supremely effective but incredibly rare. even i dont do the techqnique all that well and i russian front 1 and 3. the gymnasts at my gym all learned this way and every one of them could easily clear all 6 feet of me. alot of em do continuous front aerials and can barani also. the technique is pro for getting unbelievable height but this guy does it about as good as me, which isnt well. after years of frustation with aerials sadly this tutorial is finally obsolete for my purposes, but i guess id recommend it for decent form.

Nahh, you'll have to go gradually, if you can pull of an aerial of this height with ease then you should be able to land one on the ground too.
