View Full Version : Lower Back Strength

I've never really had a problem with my lower back so I haven't paid any particular attention to it but I often hear about injuries in the lower back so I thought it would be a good idea to start training it.

Since I've never had a problem with my lower back I haven't been sure about whether to train it or not. Is there a test to see whether I have sufficient lower back strength so that I can ignore it and allow it to be strengthened in my regular weight training sessions?

Also, if it is necessary for me to train my lower back; since I have never had any consideration to it before, with what kind of weights (if any) I should start with?

Thanks

I don't think that there is any special test. Just make sure that you include excercises that covers your lower back into your routine. Deadlifts and hyperextensions are good examples.

More important is that you always keep good posture and use good form.
