View Full Version : Why do you keep going?

Why do you keep working out, eating so healthy, etc? Do you actually enjoy the work? Or is it for the body? Girls? And when you first started, did you enjoy or hate it?

Benji
Feb-26-07, 06:48 PM
Nothing better to do. Boredom I guess. But I don't eat healthy so I don't have an answer for that.

I liked it when I started because of the fast muscle gains.

Steve
Feb-26-07, 06:52 PM
Because I like it better than school or work

Dylan

When i started weight training i didnt know if i was going to stick with it or what, my friend just needed a workout partner but after a month or so it became very addictive.

i didnt start eating healthy until afterwards but i dont think i could bring myself to eat like i did before... i'd probably lose my gains

now i love lifting, love eating right, love making gains and dont mind the complements either ;)

so to actually answer your question (since the rest was just kind of rambling) i keep going because its all something i really enjoy, its become a lifestyle

Because I like watching my body transform.

Because being stronger relative to my body size holds benefits for sports, sports I enjoy doing.

Because my body feels better at rest when I'm healthy.

Because I wasn't born to sit on the couch and eat chips.

i enjoy watching my body slowly but surely change into something i like. also i enjoy eating healthy because while the sugar and stuff tastes good on my tongue, the vitamins and protein make my body feel phenomenal.

The progressive nature of improvement. Everytime I move more weight than I ever have before, I'm motivated to reach the next interval.

My body has looked great for a long time now and I have few friends or acquaintances at the moment so aesthetics and other people's perceptions aren't really a motivation. So, for me, it really is about watching my numbers continue to increase.

Luckily, I've long since passed the n00b / obsession stage where, when the numbers don't go up, it's the psychological end of the world.

Because it fucking rocks
Haha, hell yah!

Many people start for that reason, but that's not enough to keep anyone going. It's based on a inadequate sexual viewpoint that most people quickly learn is wrong (e.g. you don't need to look phenomenal to get women). Ask anyone who's been training consistently for longer than a few years and they'll invariably give you a reason other than that one.

If you're lifting to get girls, it shows that you lack confidence.

Now, confidence is the only thing that's really going to help get you any females, and lifting weights is not the best or fastest way to get it.

Benji
Feb-26-07, 07:25 PM
It still is a good way to get it, though.

I'd debate with you and all that fun stuff but I have a midterm to study for.

Feb-26-07, 08:01 PM
well i was crazy overweight and when i finally made the decision to start losing weight, i began to diet and exercise (mainly TKD) and i saw immediate improvments, it felt freaken awesome. and plus it feels awesome to tell people that i lost 71 lbs, and that i got like 36 to go.

working out and whatnot makes me feel accomplished, like i did something useful, and something that will benefit me when i get older.

and i don't do it for the girls. at all. that's just stupid.

Of course i do it because of lack of confidence! That's why i work out so much, but it sure feels great to shake that lack of confidence without having to actualy be a better human being! YEAH!.
What about you? do you do it to improve? Why do you feel that you have to improve? Same deal huh

I've started lifting to become a better football player, but now it's more like, when I'm in the gym i'm somewhere else, nothings botters me. Stress is out all the time i'm there, I forget that I have to work later that day, that I've just failed an exam earlier, everything isn't important but the lifting. It's about the same thing for every sport. When I do sport everything else is secondary and I love it.

It is good for you. It will purify your body. You look good. You are healthy. Chicks will like you better. Your options open. You will trick better. Did I mention it is good for you?

I never did it seriously before. And also Triso has an excellent point.

... but now it's more like, when I'm in the gym i'm somewhere else, nothings botters me. It's about the same thing for every sport. When I do sport everything else is secondary and I love it.

I built up my self-confidence before hitting the gym and I feel my physical and mental health peaking for every week I check the scales or view myself in the mirror. I don't give a shit what anyone thinks about me because I feel awesome.

It feels good when I am able to answer questions people have about nutrition in everyday life. (which is kindergarten stuff compared to TT)
When I can provide them with valid info that can change their habits and thoughts on food.

I feel awesome to have so much more energy than I used to. And also the fact that I have turned it into a lifestyle, I don't NEED junk food anymore. It doesn't appeal to me.

As long as I'm having fun I'm gonna keep going.

I wasn't trying to debate. There ARE much quicker and more efficient ways to get confidence, and I agree that lifting for girls definitely does show that you lack confidence. But if you lift and then like the way that you look, then it is still a good way to develop confidence, just not one of the best.

I workout just so I can keep looking good for the girls, plus I like the overall feel of it, and it's something constructive to do to pass time

Ahh okay, let's agree to disagree. I acknowledge that lifting can improve your confidence, but it won't solve what caused that insecurity in the first place, unless you are so shallow to believe that all attraction is rooted in physical appearance. Personally, yeah, lifting helped improve my confidence, but at the same time, it has made me even more aware that appearance matters so little in the big picture.

This is offtopic so I'm going stop there.

ummm yes, just about all the time attraction is rooted in physical appearance, you never saw knights want to fuck a wench because of what she knew, or how funny she was... it's human nature to be attracted by physical appearances

Initial attraction, perhaps. But unless you're at a college party downing shots and making out with everyone next to you, getting in the sack with someone depends on a whole lot more than a mutual physical attraction.

You know what, fuck my argument. Society today is so twisted that you have 14 year olds whores preggo and kids having sex in middle school and shit, just fucked up crap going on because sex is just the cool thing to do. Now I'm all for pre-marital sex and stuff but I know you guys don't think my argument holds any water because of all the dumbfucks around us who screw everything they think looks pretty.

Syn

yeah, I know it propably shouldn't be that way, I'm just sayin take a look at our history, mating has always been about physical attraction, it's just the way things go

In response to Triso...

How can anything BUT tricking or breaking be considered a sport? IMO, tricking takes more physical prowess, dedication, motivation, and heart than any sport using a ball, etc. Discuss?

I'd say physical attraction is equal parts appearance and charisma. You don't get very far with your looks if you're dull and boring, unless the girl takes the initiative. And a physically unattractive person can get girls if he is very charismatic.

Then there's an endless amount of variables, but generally most people are attracted to someone with a attractive looks and charismatic personality.

Work on both...

On the nutrition part....it just makes you feel good and almost like you have a purpose. It makes you feel like your on your way to something really cool.
Something your gonna reach soon, but not so surre what it is. You have the knowledge that in a few days or a week your gnna be better than you are now. Your gnna advance. It makes you really feel like your a part of this incredible tricking/bodybuilding/martial arts community.

And the training is cool cause every now and then you notice that something in your body has changed...Improved.

Its INCREDIBLE. Once you start, you get kinda hooked to these things

imo, boxing, muay thai, wrestling, mma, etc take more of that kinda stuff. at least for me, tricking is a super fun thing to do which improves my health and physical abilities, but its not REALLY a sport. i mean, trickings awesome and all, but i dunno if you can get more hardcore than going out into the ring knowing that you or the other guy is most likely gonna get seriously hurt. again, just my opinion

in response to why for both tricking/lifting: cause its fucking fun, it feels amazing having energy and being healthy, to get more coordingated and stronger, and yeah, to look good

Mar-01-07, 07:46 AM
My point would be, uruguay isn't africa.

Africa black population is quite high, so if i were from africa the resemblance you made between a black man and uruguay would make sense, you'd still be a racist, but at least you'd come out like you know about the world map.

But, i dont know, tell me if you can find waldo on that lovely map i kindly posted for you, aight madafaka?

Rahf

Why would I come out as a racist just by stating this? And no, not all black people come from Africa. Most do yes but not all. Also you're an idiot so there is no reason I have to prove myself to you, fruitcake.
