Well i've always sucked at raiz, but I made a promise to victor zorilla that I was gonna get good at em...

been talking with jefferson and nate p and watching scalco's raiz tutorial. They all have good raiz's so i decided i'm gonna steal theirs muuhahaha!

this footage is just in the pit right now cuz i'm trying to get a solid comfortable technique so don't expect too much, it tends to turn to crap when i do it on the floor.

gimme tips! tip the HELL outa me!

*EDIT*
-----------------------------------------

OK i messed around with raiz again today... progress was minor. Still having a little difficulty getting a feeling for the open hips and open chest and arching my back.

A couple are a bit better i think, but definately still needs a some tweaking. I have a problem at the end of the move where my right arm comes across my chest which makes it hard if i'm gonna do anything after. I'm gonna mess around with it again maybe on friday and try to pop a flashkick out of it or something for starters if i can.

gimme those tipzzz!

um all i can say it really kane up that first leg and try to chuck your hips up to so your back archs and it should give you more height and foaltyness

hmm it seems as if you are jumping pre-emptively, let your left leg gain a little height first then launch off of your right and kind of swing throught the air, when i first started landing raiz's they felt so cool because i felt as if for a split second i was flying, it should sorta feel like that and should make your raiz look much smoother. Also imo dont torque your body so hard, it should be smooth, goodluck.

Nate and I learned them out of a gumbi...so you could try that. We just did gumbis a lot and then didnt put our hands down eventually. Its on our cartwheel side though. Which isnt the same side as my 540 / tornado side.
We had asked prodigy to teach us his raiz when we were down there and he said this:
There are two ways to do raiz. The overly inverted aerial type way (gumbi with no hands) and the way he does it (although he can do it both ways, left leg first (tornado way) and rightleg lead (overly inverted aerial)). The tornado way (the side he corks out of and combos)...he basically imagines he is rolling over a giant ball and has to form his body around it. which sounds odd until you actually watch him and he actually forms around an imaginary ball midair.

During the CLN weekend we will ask him to raiz and you will see what i mean. its amazing hahah. Ill try to show you what I am talking about when I get there haha.
I had issues with raiz as well haha. My tornado / swing thru side raiz still sucks though lol.

You know how anis always does wheel swing thru / stepback raiz? (example: gfulldleg- switch dirrection wheel swing thru raiz) well thats his aerial side not his normal raiz side and he is basically doing a overly inverted aerial. Well thats what Nathan and I do haha.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4402148138884672027&q=anis look at 2minutes 55 seconds. He does a spin kick - swingthru raiz - swinthru gainer switch. That "raiz" is actually just his inverted aerial / gumbi with no hands. It isnt on his tornado side.

I agree with shear..You don't wanna power into a raiz.
Arch your back and spread your legs more, espesially your back leg.
You're gettin' there. =)

I didn't watch it cuz I'm at school but I'll say one thing that's very important that lot's of people don't do

For the longest time i thought i had a pretty decent dip in my raiz, then filmed it, Not even close to where i thought it was

thnx for the tips guys

yea i think i'm going for the overly inverted aerial style, like how anis, crazy asian, josh kahan, zorilla, etc. do it.

i'm gonna mess with it again tomorrow so i'll just keep in mind:

- Don't rush the jump
- Dip
- Hips up
- Arch
- Chest Open
- Spread the legs

hahaha i'll film tomorrow when i screw around again

Hmmm i've always gumbied on my tornado side...

It doesnt matter what side lol, whatever comes natural.
My brother gumbis on his tornado side too. Its probably better that way, it will be easier for you to combo.

Notice how anis always has to switch directions when he combos his invert aerial raiz things. But anis can do both kinds of raiz realy good so it doesnt matter for him haha.

Ill ask nathan if he wants to make one because he is the one who would have to capture and edit it. haha.

go matt! it's pretty much yours man, just start throwing yourself around on regular floor :good: you'll end up relaxing the trail leg and whatnot and it'll improve

Hmmm, completely unrelated but is that gymnasium Extreme Acro and Cheer? I've only heard legends about it and it looks like an AWESOME place. I may have to go to an open gym sometime.

WAIT WAIT WAIT I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE DOING A LITTLE WRONG! Honestly your raiz is very nice Matt! the only problem is that you're moving too much forward. turn that distance into height by blocking, step your right leg slightly more forward in front of you on the take off. It'll help a lot trust me. And the way to spread your legs more is harder than you think. The reason for this is because you can't force your legs to spread open. The best way to get your legs to be more spread apart is to relax them while you're in the air. It'll work I promise ;)

Your biggest problem is the way you're pronouncing it "Rise" and not "Raise."

:P

Kick your first leg up hard and force your chest into the air.

And I can GUARANTEE you would have been landing those raizes better if you were doing them on a flat level and stable surface.

Nah that's actually Hill's Gymnastics in Gaithersburg which is another gym we go to and also where I work as a coach haha. Xtreme Acro is in rockville and alloooott more trickster friendly... feel free to come to open gym.

yea I refuse to say either "ryze" or "raise" consistantly, I always pronounce it however i feel like at the time.

and as for tryin it on the floor, i did try a few but the technique goes to hell so i didn't include it. the best way i can describe it is it looked like i was jumping in the air and then trying to hide inside my ass lol. gonna try to get the technique a little more solid before i go on the floor again.

haha actually the REAL pronunciation is ha-eez

coming from a capoeirista's standpoint, that is the only thing that i hate that the trickster's have taken and trickster'ized' lol

i get this little twitch everytime i hear "raise" hahahaha

ANYWAYS

ace, seems like you don't need this ol chump's advice! hell, seems like you're getting plenty of help already haha

besides, you DO remember all i told you when we were workin on it when i was broken right?!

<3

but yeaaah, more flexibility for that back (bridges, and whatnot), careful of those elbows if i remember correctly

it's the angle of the take off leg :) I will show you tonight at KT My foot is better ^_^ but I'll explain anyway on here. On the way you take off in the gym into the pit, your right foot should be facing the pit. Like the toes face the pit. right now your toes go the other way. (away formt the pit) not good lol cuz you can't airal with you leg facing the wrong way yea know ^_^ hope that helps.

I didn't think it was too bad Ace, but I can't do it. Nonetheless yes some tweaking. Sorry if this reply seems a bit late. Mostly I just wanted to comment on your vids in general. You're still hilarious and you're still progressing well. It's awesome seeing where you're going after struggling with some things for so long at the beginning. That last double btwist attempt wasn't too bad either haha.

I'm adding you on youtube as well. Boobalsdlfaklsdbbbq~!
