when you kick up your first leg in a bkick or btwist which muscles do you feel contract? eg. it could be:
the hamstring
the glute
the lower back
a mixture of these
none or all of these
i think i concentrate too much on the hamstring. the foot of my lifting leg is still the highest point of my body on take off but the knee is often left low and lagging; the leg bent at 90 degrees.
as a remedy iv recently been trying bkicks with straight legs concentrating only on exploding through the glutes but when i do this i have tremendous difficulty gaining height (my "normal" bkicks are pretty floaty right now) as well as not being able to point my toes. so theyr kinda fugly haha
any tips from people? =)
since you already know how important it is to lift your backleg, dont forget to simultaneously bring your upperbody up with it as high as it. this is where height comes from.

Find a style that works for you. Try lots and lots of different techniques. Hell it might be in your arms.

i just try and kick my self in the back of the head, even if that means hooking it over bent...
the wierd thing is, you don't feel any muscles really contract...

seriously though, don't just try and throw the leg up. consciously try and throw your foot at your head. i only just realised this is what i do, just a minute ago

Here's how you land the btwist... Watch some videos... Practice it (knowing you will mess up) a few times. Wait a day. Then spend time practicing just spinning as high and as fast as you can without really trying to land to feel how it should all spin. Wait a day. Start practicing to do the btiwst correctly / practice to just spin. Not sure if this is the best way, but it worked for me.

I really don't think about contracting anything. Just, going up, and spinning hard. :) And a little bit of trying to stay horizontal.
I think sometimes if you try to focus on very small parts of a trick you begin to over complicate it.
Up High >>> Spinny Spin. Don't think about contracting aids.

the thing about a b-twist is the steps, you got to know the mechanics before you try it. When I first tried it, I would just spin off, never thought I would be able to do it at all, until I came to this site! The main thing about a b-twist is that back leg going up and you getting behind yourself after the takeoff. I learnt the b-twist in two tries after following the steps! Just watch Jujimufu's b-twist exampler video clip. And also read the instrustion on the step-by-step b-twist. "Don't think, just do." (Bruce Lee)

When I Btwist, I do a dip and by the time my torso is facing the direction I am traveling my chest is parallel to the ground. Then I come up out of my dip and throw my chest up so I am no longer horizontal(at this point I am facing perpendicular to the direction I am Going). Then I lift my leg straight up real hard and feel the strain on my glute. my legs then catch up to my body and allow me to achieve greater height than if I just entered the move horizontally.

i pretty much fixed my btwist now anyways. =)
well actually you can improve it by using your shoulders i think its
a mixture of every thing ! and if you want to improve it a vid would help ^^

I definitely agree with glutes dude. hammy would just rotate you forwards. You need to feel that contraction in your butt and lower back (nice arch = nice lift). that's what Liang always says anyway, and he knows his shit.
