View Full Version : 720 double
Anyone have tips on the 720 double? I get around fine, but my second kick is slanted and i touch down as it's coming out. Any tips or advice that you discovered while learning/perfecting it?
Just keep trying to kick that target and turn your shoulders over properly. If you take out both kicks really smoothly it makes it a whole lot easier than trying to muscle them both out. Lets see footage though.

Don't lean away on that second kick. It should be sharp and close to the upperbody, which should once again, be upright.

When you do a 360 crescent does your non-kicking leg sorta drift it's way up by itself?
Try to avoid that. It happened to me and I think that's why I sprained my ankle doing the 720 double lol.
No it's not a smooth motion for me. My 360c looks like hans's, i usually practice hypers. For the 720 double I re-chamber and then kick again. Should I try keeping my leg straight like capoeria guys do?

I'd think that's harder because by bringing it you can speed up rotation. That's mostly a debate over style though. People do it both ways. My personal preference is to rechamber and kick out. I can't actually do it yet but that's how I'm going about learning it. I think it looks snappier.
I've heard doing the first kick as a crescent and the second more as a hook would be the way to go about it if you're going to rechamber and all. I'm not sure how much that matters though too. Again, that's how I'm wanting to go about it.

i disagree, leaning back slightly on the 720 double makes it easier. Only a veeeery slight lean though.
dont re-chamber completely, that'll slow your rotation down loads. Keep the leg pretty straight :good:
theyre just practise tbh, once you get them theyre not that hard.

hmm personally i wouldnt lean back in 720double. they can be done like that but i try and stay upright when doing em. street fighter style FTW haha
if you can do 360gyros after kicking all the way through your target (your kicking leg will be "relaxed" and pointing to the floor) you shouldn't have much trouble adding a balanced hook or have to lean back. any pump action with the non-kicking leg should be vertical, but it will undoubtably help you torque harder for the second kick.
well i say lean if the kick comes out...just so ur body's used to it..then adjust accordingly so u have correct technique for later.
this move is so weird..it comes and goes for me. same with the jacknife.

upright is much more useful if you wanna advance to 900double (360gyro with an added round kick). leaning will leave you with a bruised ass!

give it a go matt! They arent that hard
i'm not really bothered about turning it into a 900 double, they dont interest me. I try to apply the tip for the jknife ben brown gives of 'looking under' the 2nd kick to get it higher. But hey, thats just me

Yeah I end up doing that half the time with my c720s, kinda leaning to the side and looking under I mine. Of course that's just for hooks, not the crescents haha. I will though. I've dabbled with it briefly before but that was before I had a lick of knowledge on some of the technique needed.

I tried some today. I failed. WHY CAN'T I LEARN MOVES IN ONE SESSION?!

lets say your body is straight up in this circle as a center axis. Your center of gravity is where the dot is

Your leg should rotate twice along the same plane. A chamber isn't necessarily as important as sheer force. When I do mine my leg comes up at a 45 degree angle, then I act like I'm overrotating a hyper and try to mimic the exact same motion I just made using extra momentum from the down-side of the arc
Does that make any sense?

No, but after a trick session earlier today and the weight gym just now I'm too tired to think straight. Maybe another time Hi C

def makes sense but is probably different to a coupla the methods mentioned (inc mine). weird how you compare it to hyperhook whilst learning! haha
difficulty wise id put 720double waaaay below hyperhook although im sure others would put it the other way round. funny.
