Wow, I think I actually might try this Art out. Would you say this would be the most efficient art for developing kicks? Not that I'd be taking it solely for that purpose.
Excelent videos by the way, nice find :D
Really made an impact on me.

In my experience, TKD is all kicks. Very little of anything else.

God damn I love TKD. Those that they it's ALL kicks haven't really been that far into it. True, there are a lot of kicks, however there is quite a number of other shit that people don't realize. Take the art and not in a mcdojang to see what it's really about. Plus keep in mind most of the stuff your seeing on TV is WTF(world taekwondo federation) competions which have the olympic style sparring. ITF(internation taekwondo federation) is cool too, not too different from WTF, just they don't do olympic style sparring.
Anyway..not getting into a rant of TKD, thanks Shido for a very wicked post:good:
ps: starfoot when you look at this, in the first video, you should be able to recongnize some peoples in there:P just look to your TKD Norway team tribute.:P

What should I look for in a school? there are about 3-4 different TKD schools in the area i'll be living in in a few weeks. Of course I know to stay away from ATA blackbelt academy, but anyway..

like any school look for one that suites your needs the best. I can't really tell you what to look for cause I don't know what your wanting to learn. You'll probably learn a lot of different stuff from kicks to grabs/holds, pressure points, blocks, ect. In my school we do learn all of that. We also practice olympic style sparring for anyone interested in competing. I mainly compete for poomse, but some kyorugi when I have a catagorey in which I can compete with.

thats ur experience. generally a good tkd school will emphasize kicks and punches..obviously kicks take the forefront.

Thats funny because I'm actually an instructor for an ATA school and people who train with me can tell you that you don't want to recive a sidekick from me, nor will you see half of the moves coming.
Remember this when you look for a school.
It's the instructor that makes the martial art not the other way around.

Ah, good point, sorry about that. Just its what i've always been told, that its a McDojo. I'll take your word on that as it does make perfect sense.
But aside from that, I ment...you can ussually get one trial day to see whats up at the school, in my opinion that might not be enough. Just curious if there are any little subtle things i should take notice to. I guess its still a stupid question but oh well lol.

Well here is the thing as far as Martial Arts studios go. You have to see how the instructor teaches. I'd recommend going to watch a couple of adult classes because thats where most of the work out is going to be. See what they teach. Look at the work out, there has to be a good mix in an adult class. Has to be circuit training, then working on kick techniques, combination, minor footwork(simply because its the hardest to understand), self defence etc. You usually cant fit all of that in one class, I mean I can't when I'm teaching and I teach an hour class. Then you have to look past some of the students, because there is allways a huge level of student base. You have your talented students who were made for this, then you have those who do it just for re-creational activity, then you have those who want to be good but physically its challenging for them. So you can't gauge a person on how good they are because their kicks are low or not fast enough you can't say "Oh that guy/girl sucks" simply because you dont know where they have started and how far they have already come.
On top of that, you need to go into a more established school. Hundreds of MA schools close all the time because they are not a "McDojo" or whatever. I used to be of the same mind set "ooo McDojo you guys all about the money and your blackbelts suck" well thats the biggest bullshit and a reality check I got when I started actually working as an instructor. You start realizing that "Shit this is easy for me because maybe I'm athletic and been doing this for a while" but for others its hard, some kids/adults may never really be that AMAZING. So you start seeing small improvements with the students over the time, you put your time, you put your whole soul into it just to have a small impact and improvement onto each student. So I'm sorry if I am going to charge a bit fucking more if I spend anywhere from 11 to 14 hours at work, working on improving everyone and trying to make the school presentable. So dont let some students who are not as good, make you immidiatly think its a McDojo.
Now you allways have to look at an instructor too, how good is he/she. Physically and also when they teach do they demonstrate? Also when they show techniques on students how do they interact? How they explain etc.
Oh and the reason why most people say that ATA schools are McDojo's its simply because there is an immence amount of ATA schools around the country. I belive over 60000 or some crazy number like that. So yes out of 60000 schools there are going to be some that are not as good. Thats just a reality and I wish people could understand that.
Eh I can keep writing but I hope that makes some sense to you.
