I was watching Dogens titanium ankles tutorial the other day and he said he had some problem reguarding his ankles and he had a sharp pain when he lands causing him to stop tricking... Was just wondering if any others had the same sort of problem because I beleive I either have this or I've torn ligaments but I have the problem in both ankles so I think it's rather unlikely for it to be torn ligaments. Also what do you do to combat the pain/try to prevent it?

I've been to the doctor, he said he didn't know whats wrong however I'm planning on going again soon. I've had an X-ray taken and there was nothing wrong there either so please try to keep them out of the suggestions.

Thanks in advance,

Tova~

See another doctor or a few more doctors if your budget allows it. Chances are your doc doesn't really know what to look for. The best thing you can do is to really focus on conditioning your ankles and give them plenty of rest if they go sore. Keep the tricking sessions short (30-45 minutes) and make sure you rest afterwards.

Hope that helps in the right direction.

...sharp pains. its unlikely that you tore any of your ligaments, but possible. you wont be able to tell anything from an x-ray. in order to find out whats wrong, youll need an MRI and labwork. they'll probably order a CBC along with some other things. but more than likely you have recurrent ankle sprains. i fucked up my ankles really bad (both of them)...and i had thought my ligaments were torn as well..but it turns out that im just really prone to ankle sprains now.

so go back to your doc and ask for a consult for an MRI test and possibly a referral to physical therapy or orthopedics.

key things to do in order to preserve ankle and improve situation:
-brace up whenever youre active on your feet.
-RICE (rest ice compression and elevation) after every session.
-do ankle strengthening excercises in order to compensate in case of torn ligament as well as strenghten ankle for future tricking ;]. it helps in the long run anyway.

also..if you hurt it..dont keep going. take 2 weeks off then get back into it. good luck.

Rahf, I live in England so doctors are free on the NHS xd

Tracekillz, I've tried those things you have suggested in the past, they dont seem to do me much good xd I mean when I first had the injury I had to use RICE for a week or so, though admitedly I havnt used it after a session in a while, Ido try to use braces as much as I remember to and recently I've been doing ankle excersizes xd

Its just the wierd thing is I've had this injury since summer last year and I think I only tricked 2 or 3 times throughout autumn/winter so it's not like its had plenty of time to heal if it was a sprain xd

well i mean..if you have chronic ankle sprains then its not gonna work awesomely..but it WILL help. and you have to be persistent with it. dont just do it one day and not the next...you gotta do it all the time. eventually youll see results. you wont notice at first tho.

ancleinjuries suck!! i twisted my ancle in a wallflip 180 about a month ago, and it still hurts! i can almost run now.. i actually wish my ligaments had been torn off, cause now theyre real loose and the chance of getting another ancleinjury is real big!!

Pain can be any variety of injuries, to pinpoint it takes specific details to compare (probably different for majority) so a doctor/therapist would be needed to diagnose unless you're very experienced having or treating such injuries in the past. Pain could even be damaged cartilidge coating having bone scrape on bone is painful.
