I've been reading about these artificial flavours they put in various foods and I refuse to eat anything with the stuff in.
Its called 'Aspartame'! If what they say is true, then the peeps out there that take their daily protein shake (which is probably you) should think whats going in your gut.

Heres a few sources to get your brain juices pumping in anger ;)

http://www.sweetpoison.com/aspartame-side-effects.html

Watch out for the brothers and sisters too (sucralose, acesulfame k/potassium), apparently they to are equally damaging.

This does pose a slight difficulty when choosing a shake because most contain the stuff :(

It's supremacist sensationalist misinformation like this that lead the Zambian government to cease the flow of GM crops to the starving.

That said, the revolving door in the food additive industry raises some alarm bells. I avoid additives when I can not out of fear of growing an extra limb but because they are largely unnecessary.

I regularly use products that contain Sucralose, and I don't give a shit.

Hahah, way to generalize that all whey has aspartame.

Caring about something as innocent as aspartame is just pure silliness.

Aspartame does raise the risk of getting cancer. It is scientifically proven (on rats). Whereas Sucralose doesn't have anything significant going against it yet.

Hmmm I think sucralose is also suspect, but not as bad as Aspartame, and yes, the tests are on rats - because of the genetic similarities between us and those rodents, its kind of a reliable source.
What shake are you buying?

I don't care about both! Yeah it's funny because it's true that almost all whey have aspartame hahaha!

I drink whey with aspartame, I chew gum with aspartame. If I get cancer, I get cancer. You're not guaranteed to get it, consuming alot of aspartame only increases the risk of you getting it.

*Edit* People need to stop looking at sucralose with an evil eye. We hardly know anything about it. Which was the case with aspartame 15 years ago. There is no proven significant downside to sucralose, it is scientifically regarded as a safer choice than aspartame.

The lack of evidence is too big for me to believe aspartame increases the risk of cancer more than most stuff I put in my mouth. Do you know something I don't?

The other thing about Sucralose (and artificial sweetners in general to some extent) is that the amounts you consume are so tiny (unless you're eating loads of processed crap on a daily) that even if it is moderately toxic/carcinogenic then it's still inconclusive as to how dangerous it is in such amounts. Also, it's easy enough to buy whey without artificial sweetners.

Revised and peer-reviewed.

Environ Health Perspect. 2006 Mar;114(3):379-85. First experimental demonstration of the multipotential carcinogenic effects of aspartame administered in the feed to sprague-dawley rats. (http://www.ehponline.org/members/2005/8711/8711.pdf)

End result:

"The results of this mega-experiment indicate that APM is a multipotential carcinogenic agent, even at a daily dose of 20 mg/kg body weight, much less than the current acceptable daily intake. On the basis of these results, a reevaluation of the present guidelines on the use and consumption of APM is urgent and cannot be delayed."

where do you think all the Alzheimer and cancer comes from? It is the crap in our food. Mostly America. I always choose to not drink coke or chew gum because of the amount of aspartame in them. Aspartame is in a lot of foods we do not even think about. Even getting food at Mc.Donnalds is harmful to us. The reason Mc.Donnals is so cheap to us is because they put so much artificial flavours in there food rather than keeping it real. Dang it im starting to sound to much like a nutritionist...Ill stop

I agree.

Duckzilla: You sound like you've read some popular magazines and taken what they wrote in big colourful letters. The aspartame amount in gum is frickin' miniscule and Diet Coke comes with sucralose nowadays.

There's no such thing, you die because part of your withered husk of a body finally packs in.
