i am finally over my month long back injury. yesterday, i was teaching my mom and my aunt some good stretches to do. we did a lot of static stretches first. nothing very long, but i moved quickly through each one. after that, i was like "oh yeah here are some other stretches (dynamic)" i did a front rising kick higher than i have ever done it. it was at least 180 degress straight up. i accidentally went a little to far:dead:. anyways, when i did it, i felt a pop in my hamstring right where the top of the thigh and the buttocks meet. i am soooo pissed.

having this happen, made me realize that i might have pulled my other hamstring without knowing. its a similar pain that ive had for a while and i have been just stretching through it to get rid of the pain for TKD class. i have not let it heal cuz i thought it was just sore, but it hasnt gone away. my flexibilty in that spot will not increase even though i know i can go past that point.

how long does it take for something like this to heal, cuz i just wanna be HEALED ONCE AND FOR ALL! it is pretty painful if i do a front rising kick or a side kick. i can get my sidekick about head hight (my avatar is me just lifting my leg, not actually kicking), but i tried one today in my forms and i hurt like a bitch even though it was barely waist hight. im gonna rest it and do ice, heat, and such.

Rest up, let it heal. Also, don't do static stretches before dynamic.

And most importantly, never, EVER!, try to impress your mother and/or aunt with your flexibility prowess.

HAHA, you caught me. i dont know why i tried to impress them, but my the static ctretching really raised my pain tolerance so i didnt know my limit. i knew not to do that, but i was just sorta being unconcious about the situation. do you know roughly how long the healing will take? i am so sick of injuries. i have barely started tricking and i am becoming a cripple after only pulling a 540.

It depends on a lot of things. Rest it. Take some ibuprofen if you want. Do NOT stretch through the pain. Do some really light exercises aftera few day sto loosen it up some more. Maybe don't go to TKD for a week or so. Lay off of it, and start working the muscle slowly. It could take a week. It could take 10.

It will take the time it needs, we can't say for sure. Do not apply ice, ice is for acute and heat is for chronic. Buy a wheatbag, it'll come in handy more than once.

Actually this is an acute injury. Chronic is along the lines of arthritis.

RICE it.

I still don't like to put things on ice unless it's within an hour of the actual injury. But I've heard Americans love their ice

I always had a doubt about when pain, from an injury, pass from acute to chronic.
If I pull a muscle it is acute ok, but if the disconfort/pain due to that is till there after 3 months, is it chronic? What after 6 months?

Let it heal. I had the same injury a while back. I had to rest it for 4 months. Thats right. Almost half a year. But i dont want to scare you off, so it would be better to visit a doctor. I hope it heals soon :good: .

Did you warm up before hand? Learn from this.

The problem with heat (to my unvast knowledge), is that it has the potential to contribute to swelling and inflamation (depending on the injury).

Whereas ice does the opposite.

I don't have any injuries yet, but this sentence also applies to me

Did you warm up before hand? Learn from this. no warm up. i have really learned alot though. i am going to be alot more concious about my body so i dont hurt myself as much.

crap...i really hope its not that bad. if i had to sit out the summer, it would truly be a test of my spirit. i really dont know how i would take it. but i do have faith that it will heal quickly. especially since im goin out of town for 2 weeks. i wont be tempted to go into TKD class . the thing is, i go to my dojang even when im hurt so that i can help out with classes and stuff, then i get antsy, and go into my class afterwards. this trip will be good for me.
