View Full Version : How do YOU do your roundoff

glide2
May-02-07, 03:58 PM
So? Do you bent your arms (tricker style), or not (gymnast style), do you use a back hand spring out of it, do you get good height, do you block well, do you like men? I would describe my roundoff as god-awful on my best days, so if you have some general tips on the roundoff you can throw them here...

Edit: fuck I'm gay, wrong sub forum.

Gymnast style.

yeah because id pretty much interpret this as "correct style" haha

Pretty much. My roundoff isn't PERFECT POWERTUMBLER FORM, but it's better than most tricksters'.

I hear that man. I generally don't like watching tricksters tumble, with a few exceptions.

I agree that most trickers can't tumble, but the bent arms roundoff isn't the "wrong" way. Just look at Anis and you'll be convinced.

hmm...i kinda do bent arms..but it seems to work seeing as i can triple full, double back, full x full, etc.

Kyle McLean, you are quite the sex, kid. You get some mad height. You'll sure be scary in a couple of years...

if you can get power out of your roundoff that is what matters, sessh and anis are good examples, but most trickers have terrible tumbling.
i hate seeing people that can do all kinds of fancy tricks, but then their tumbling is limited. it was good seeing anis doing roundoff handsprings in his last sampler

danny graham is a good example of a tricker who can tumble well, the french dude from team xswipe who kind of looks like danny graham is also really good in both tricking and tumbling

Tricksters are inferior tumblers. There is no doubt about that. There is no shame in proper technique.

i try to copy marc c's technique since he jumps fuckin high as shit.

I make my roundoff as long as possible. I keep my arms straight. I can't back handspring out of it because I block too high.

Yeah I find roundoff-bhs very awkward but roundoff-whips is fine.

i hate this 'gymnast style' and 'trickster style' that people always talk about, its bollocks. Thers just a right way and a wrong way (with most things), the right way will result in more height / faster flip / faster spin or whatever your doing and the wrogn way will result in a rubbish technique

why did you published that in "shere your vids?"...

i have pretty good form for my round off, i tumble backwards pretty well overall, i cant tumble forwards for shit though, i reach forwards with straight arms so i guess gymnast style would be my style, plus the guy who helps me with my tumbling is a gym coach aswell as a tricker/traceur so he moans at me if i do it wrong

doesnt CA use bent arms? doesnt he do double fulls on concrete? yea....

No it's not, cause 99% of gymnasts do their roundoff with straight arms, so there is a "gymnast style" and a "non-gymnast style", which we can also call tricker style since most trickers do their roundoff with bent arms.

to scott and zeph.
you have to modify your roundoff a bit to bhs out of it. when you snap you want to overrotate a bit piking your legs into your body so that you explode backwards. it will definately be awkward, especially if you are used to going up after it. good roundoff bhs is worth having though

Oh I know that, haha. I just don't care enough to apply it.

Bent arms is exquisite technique if you are going for height straight from your roundoff.

Bending your arms gives you a better block allowing for more height.

This is very bad however if you wish to back handspring out of your roundoff. Gymnastically speaking you should never block from a roundoff because gymnasts only use the roundoff as entry to a back handspring.

Tricking is not gymnastics.

Don't bash bent arms. :wicked:

the whole point of a roundoff is to get as much power as possable, for that reason I do it the gymnast way.

Dragonic MiKe
May-03-07, 12:24 PM
But the power in gymnastic tumbling all comes from the roundoff - bhs super power unit of ultimate power.

If you want power from just a plain old roundoff you gotta change something.

you get more power from roundoff than a run and punch.

i never just round off anynore. bhs's make everything go nuts and make the, so-called block you get out of a bent armed roundoff completely obsolete. you need hardly any effort and look what happens...

CA bends his arms when he tumbles, I believe. And his tumbling is still clean/sick as hell.

Dude, use your arms in that avatar doubleflash! You could get an easy foot extra height just by throwing your arms up.

Edit: Oh, also, I submit that someone has hijacked alpha7158's account. He's just not himself recently.

Hahaha I know. I like how in that clip it's just like a no handed flip.

I can't stand watching it, but i thought the kicks were clean.

Alpha must have a new gf

Dragonic MiKe

Yeah, the kicks are real nice. :good:

But the arms! :agony:

hehe.

All I know is that Andy used to be such a useful member of TT. I was even going to ask him for advice on buying a new camera. But I won't cause it's obviously not the real Andy we all know and love.

I love me my roundoff bhs. They give you sooo much more power into any tumbling. I don't even bother doing roundoff flips anymore. They feel so lame.

I can't watch it cause all i see is the glaring room for improvement.

What's your camera situation

Dragonic MiKe
May-04-07, 11:44 AM
My camera situation is broken.

I'm thinking of shelling out for a (second hand) hard drive camera. But I could do with some direction from the camera master himself.

He'd probably tell me to get a Sony in any case. :P

May-04-07, 11:55 AM
Yep. I just roundoff it gymnastics style. I didn't even know there was another way to do it! Yeah....sometimes I backhandspring out of it cause that ( ifound) builds up the speed and power of the stuff that you want to do after it. Thats why all the top gymnasts do it.

Flowers
May-04-07, 01:06 PM
You can never go wrong with a sony. Unless you plan on making some highquality "Sellable" shit, I would just reccomend a MiniDv Tape cam. The sony ones have touch screen and are sooo sturdy and reliable.

Stay far away from JVC and Minidisc taper corders. The Jvc will randomly decide it's not going to connect to your computer anymore, and the MiniDisc is just shit. (No firewire port, and shitty compatibility)

I love how the people in the background of your avatar (especially the fat dude in the blue shirt) just don't seem to care that the cleanest cheat 7 known to man is being executed right in front of them.
