Is the sideflip easier to learn once you have the aerial perfect? It isnt the same thing i know, but its a similar range of movements isnt it? You go sideways up on both moves, no? So if you learn the aerial, you have something to start off the sideflip from. Or is it just that your much braver to go into the sideflip (because you learned how to do the aerial with no hands)?

hell no.
its the same as comparing an aerial with a frontflip.
besides - for an aerial basicly - you stomp forwards, while in a sideflip you should [should, because there r a lot of ppl who dont do that...] stomp sideways...
but sideflips r easy [as every other tricks once you learn it lol].
but seriously. they r easy.
you just run, stomp at 45° [or completely sideways], throw your hands to the direction you're going, jump - wait for the peak, tuck as hell and release for a gentle landing...

thats about it...
well and the fact that you travel the distance sideways... but the whole "feeling" is different...
Just helps mentally, and if you can aeria, you probably have the physical strength to sideflip
IM SCARED TO SIDEFLIP ON GRASS...

These are the exact two things that i was thinking of having the two in common. I thought the sideflip was different in feeling though (just to note i didnt think they are the same completely).

Nah they really don't have much in common. They feel like completely different moves unless (as has been previously mentioned) you do a tucked aerial and call it a side. Yes I can do both and quite proficiently.
They are pretty easy though, so you could as well try it.

question: if you come out of a cartwheel and push of both feet and carry on like an aerial...
woud that be cartwheel, sideflip combo
or just a cartwheel, "strange aerial" combo :p

Ya, I can aerial. I haven't tried the sideflip though, I don't find it interesting. If you know what I mean.

Yeah, i had practised the aerial for about 2 days, and i almost had it too. But i just cant seem to see the main points in a sideflip. Anyway, we're having school break from tomorrow, so if all goes well, we'll get to practise them both.

OK try sideflip, I think the move got a bit of an aerial, the way you take off (if its a one footed take off ofc)

hell no. regular would be like a frontflip only sideways [meaning, jump off both feet sideways, tuck, land sideways]

I wish I could do that... I've had some problems with my back, and last week, my hip was dislocated.. So, as you might have guessed, I haven't tricked for a while  .
@Drunk-monk
Oh, okay. This thread just gave me the impression of, that the sideflip is off one leg.
The difference between the to moves is so damn obvoius I still don't know why people are posting..
One footed sideflips are completly different from an aerial, You run, jump off one foot abit sideways, and instead of swinging that back leg right up and keeping it straight your bring it in to your chest, one footed sideflips are more of a rolling motion then anything else..if you do them properly it bairley feels like you left the ground.
aerials..are..aerials..you take off one foot, your chest is ussualy quite low to the ground. your almost fully extanded through the entire move.

Thats for the side to side aerial.
theyre not really that similar in my opinion, the rythmn of the moves is completely different
aerials are almost completely in the takeoff, once you jump your done.
flips like the sideflip are more like PUNCH off ground, stall, TUCK, land. the aerial has more of a swish feel and the sideflips like bambambam.
anyways, theyre both pretty easy, just go out and learn em for yourself so you can have your own opinion on the subject
