I have no experience in any martial arts, I just practice for the fun since I'm to poor to afford classes.
I was wondering if anyone has any tips for getting a little extra hip twist into my kick to land on my kicking leg.
here is a video of me attempting to 540 tornado
Any advice would be great. Here (http://youtube.com/watch?v=yCLuIUJOOiE)

dude awesome kick! try to bring the hyper or non-kicking leg higher and try to tork your upper body more to the left so the kick will be more powerful. other than that just drill your tornado and it will look very nice soon.

Yeah, all you can really do from here on out is to keep your non kicking leg up more, and thrust yourself with your kicking leg. Like, what I can see is that you're trying to swing your leg around, when really it should be done by having your hips carry you through. Hope you're reading Juji's stuff!

I think you should do some training focussed on perfecting the tornado kick without treating it like a 540. Doing that in addition to 540 attempts should help. Also, think UP more - maybe throw the knee more UP and less across.
Hmm... watching the vid again I notice that you could get a lot more out of your arms, especially the left one. Copy Juji's 540 I reckon (from his exampler). Remember to throw arms and non-kicking leg UP with full power.
You're pretty close though I'd say. Keep at it.

Thanks for the advice, Ive been practicing getting more hip control in the air by spinning and throwing my knee over my hips without the leg extension.
I normally get my knee higher but I justed started adding the extra spin in the start to get more spin so I'm not completely comfortable with the motion yet but I hope to soon have it down.
I must say I love the internet, to have the ability to learn kicks through trick sites and youtube =p

You're getting enough rotation to land a 540, you just need to bend your nonkicking leg when you throw the kick. The only major problem I see is that you're off balance, so you might have some nasty falls if you go for the 540 straight away. If you can land tornado kicks upright with a kick like that you should get the 540 easily.
Also try to use your arms more- extend your arms when you're setting for the spin, pull them in when you kick, and extend them again as you land (the last part will come naturally).

mastabiff, since when did you emerge back onto the forums??
to the thread starter:
you're leaning back way too much, the angles you're inflicting on your body is doing you no favours, your lower body is tailing off and your upper body is leaning back a bit too much.
try and have the non kicking leg pulling up straight in front of you, and work around that focal point.
always have a predetermined front and back when you're doing kicks like this, so you know when you're going off target and when you're kicking early.
keep practising.

A good method for learning the 540 is to start with a low kick, its much easier to get the leg around in chest height compared to past head height as u are currently trying to do! Other than that, good kick! Keep drilling it, 540 is a fucker in the learning phase!

After watching it myself some more I think I have enough height to land a 540, but i throw my right arm back after throwing the kick and don't twist through the kick enough and my upper body stops my hips.

I think a week or two of throwing my right arm over with the kick and more upper body twist and Ill have a decent 540 tornado

This is exactly what I thought  you need to jump more and USE YOUR ARMS - it's what always prevented me from landing 540s, I got them the day I figured out how to use my arms right.

Mad probs if you have a "decent" 540 in one or two weeks!
...Dude don't expect this to come easily, tricking is difficult!

I meant having a decent 540 more in terms of being able to land it every few attempts, not fluent. I understand that takes lot of practice.

for me, that way of doing 540's is a lot harder than what I learned in kung fu. Try doing your 540's with an inside crescent kick instead, it uses the inner thigh to kick rather than the top of the thigh. May work for you, may not.

Eh, most of the time this forum annoys me, but if I visit once in a long while I find it more enjoyable.

The instep is actually the top of your foot. The inside is the "inside".

For no ma experience thats pretty good! Try to keep your back straighter. Lean slightly back or keep your back perpendicular to the ground.
