hey uhm im gonna be in 9th grade next year and i was thinking of maybe being on the school wrestling team...and if i dont do it in 9th i will definantly do it in 10th, so yea im gonna do it. and i need to get in betta shape, could anyone help me out with some of the things i would need to do to get stronger for doing wrestling moves and stuff? i dont really know where to start. im not out of shape or anything, im actually in fair shape like i can run for a long time, i can jump high, and soemother stuff. but im kinda light for my height. im like 5'7" and i only weigh 109 =((. im not very strong either i was thinking of seriously starting weight lifting...

so ya any tips?

wrestling requires a good mix of both strength and endurance. dont worry about being light, one of the toughest parts of wrestling is making weight without losing all ur strength, so if ur naturally lean thats good. chances are u will gain muscle endurance once ur on the team from all th drills, so now its best to weight lift for pure strength. theres loads of material on this site and all over the web on how to so efficiently. lastly remember ur young and ur a beginner so 3 times a week with workouts of no more than about 12 sets should be ample to make strength gains in ur first month or so, from then ull need to c wat works best for u. in a word, do ur homework. all the best

"Once you have wrestled, everything else in life seems easy"

Wrestling is intense, but definitely worth while. No matter how hard you prepare, you will still be completely wrecked after wrestling.

Even if you can't join the team until next year, ask the coach if you could sit in on some training sessions. Or ask for some training advice. Tell him you would like to start wrestling as soon as possible.
